I just bought a huge bag of frozen organic soy pods to snack during day. Now I just remembered that my midwife told me to avoid soy milk because it increases estrogen levels. So should I avoid the beans too?
I have heard that excessive consumption of soy can lead to imbalances in the body (can’t remember what). How about low fat dairy products? Almond milk?
I’ve read that it’s best to avoid foods that can cause gas during pregnancy…and beans are among foods that do that. I think it would be okay…unless you’re eating way too many, lol. Here, it says that beans are okay.
Re: Soy during pregnancy?
Thanks RV...LOL, I know beans cause gas but I don't eat a lot. I was thinking of snacking a handful because it's supposed to be a healthy snack instead of chips and other junk but I guess, I have to find something else now. :)

Make yourself a salad. Take some fresh spinach leaves (contains iron, vitamins A and C, iron, and folic acid......all things that preggy women need), add a handful of kidney beans and chickpeas (get em canned. Contain iron, B vitamins, protein), add a few slices of cucumbers and tomatoes. Season with salt/pepper/lemon juice/and olive oil. Pour your favorite salad dressing...throw in some croutons. And you have yourself a healthy dish. I eat this salad for lunch at work each day. I'm not gassy, LOL.
OR....take some low fat yogurt. Whip it smooth. To that, add canned/drained chickpeas, diced boiled potatoes, finely diced tomatoes, finely chopped onion, salt to taste, garam masala, imli ki chutney....(and papars optional). You've made yourself a yogurt salad/chaat.
Or make channa chaat and throw a handful of beans.
Re: Soy during pregnancy?
^ I used to snack on fruits when i was pregnant like peaches , apricots , bananas , apples etc etc.
Re: Soy during pregnancy?
soy is not advised during pregnancy as it can cause dehydration (well it did fr hubs SIL) n sometimes coz of hormonal imbalances it can harm the baby
this isnt dctrs advise just personal thoughts :)
try dried apricots or other dried fruits but only a handle full at a time
good luck n may Allah SWT bless u with a healthy baby n safe delivery Ameen

I am glad you said that. I have no idea how bad it is for you and your kid but it's just a food item, look at the price tag it comes along with(i.e. harm to you/baby).
I know there's no need to say it as you've already decided otherwise, but I'll just say it anyway...some people will their world to have a healthy normal baby, it's just soy beans. :)
Re: Soy during pregnancy?
I think I had edamame once or twice in pregnancy. I would not make soy beans a regular snack.
Re: Soy during pregnancy?
OK no more soy coz it will cause unnecessary constipation and hormonal imbalance....I am already using spinach in my meals but will get some salad spinach and use those as a snack during the day. I also love munching on carrots and cucumbers. I love vegetables! Thanks all for your advice, I really appreciated it! :)
Re: Soy during pregnancy?
^ur so good! I wish I could eat all that healthy stuff. I love fruits, apples mainly but I can’t make myself eat anything green ![]()
Re: Soy during pregnancy?
^shino, why can't you eat the greens? is it the pregnancy thing or you actually don't like green veggies? BTW, I am lactose intolerant so I can't get enough milk even during pregnancy because it gives me menstruel cramps. :(
Re: Soy during pregnancy?
corruptangel....
I am not lactose intolerant but pregnancy has made me flip when it comes to milk and yoghurt... I throw up like none other..and have the severest pain that just scared the living daylights out of me... so I stopped having those... guess what it is not good for the baby ..so my doctor recommended calcium sandoz ..these are dissolvable tablets....and they give you 1000mg of calcium ...what your body needs.... now I don't hear any more snapping noises in my joints and don't feel that my baby is suffering coz I can't get any calcium in my body.... try it...it might help...
Re: Soy during pregnancy?
^Thanks for the idea...I'll look into sandoz. My midwife also advised me to take 2 Tums in the morning and 2 in the evening because it contains calcium as well.
