I am perfectly fine, thank you. I am not in Southern Cal, by the way. I am in Northern Cal (San Jose).
I have a very close friend who lives in San Diego (slightly north of La Jolla, actually) and he had to evacuate Monday morning due to very bad air quality and wild fires. There were no hotel rooms left. Route 8 that leads to Arizona had road closure, so did I-15 that connects to LA. The only road out was I-5, and that was predictably very slow. He finally made it to Irvine last night and is staying put in a hotel there. Looking at TV news reports, more than 500,000 folks are evacuated and fires are no where close to being contained. Situation is quite bad, actually.
5Abi was also in S. Cal, but right now he is out of the USA.
Not sure who else is there.

Yes the fires were going wild from Malibu to San Diego. A lot has been contained now. But a lot of areas are still in danger. So far 6 deaths have been reported.
I've never seen this much smoke in Orange county before. we see brown/black sky, smoke, ashes everwhere. winds were out of control too. Actually, winds made it worst.
But overall, its better than before now. But we're still in the state of emergency.
Allergies are back because of smoke & ashes.
Salute to fire fighters. great job.
Also, arrangements are far better for evacuees than Katrina arrangements.

According to LA Times and its not over yet. The Santana wind phenomenon is supposed to last thru Wednesday, but the fires are yet to be fully contained and there is a lot of fuel thats feeding it. It hasnt rained here in SoCal region in months, which was a major factor why the were so many fires (13 separate fires at one time).
Most of the fire devastation has been in San Diego county and the homes burnt have bee in canyons overlooking the mountains and forests. Major urban/metro areas in both San Diego and LA area have been spared so far.
PS: ASN took a helicopter tour of the affected area.
