South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

Of course, in that case it's not terrorism...But when a Sunni does the same, it is...

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

Kind of like how many Muslims justify 9/11 based on the US killing so many Muslims, right? Some Muslims I've met believe 9/11 and 7/7 attacks were "resistance" whereas everything the US does is terrorism. I'm sure there are a few on this board who support al-Qaeda and regard the Taliban as "pious brothers", regard all Western women as "sluts" and "whores", and advocate forced conversion of non-Muslims (just look at the number of al-Qaeda tapes for proof).

Of course, we Muslims are supreme beings of the world, we can do whatever we want and be hypocritical about it.

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

muslims throughout the world ignore the moral code at times when they are put under stress, thats true. i have seen statements made by pakistanis which if said by a western person would be international news regarding intolerence

although generally our morals are very high, they break up too easilly

theres no need to take it out on the arabs. its not their fault
if you can blame anything on the terror scene then the blame must be distributed fairly. in order of guilt no:1) US 2)pakistan 3) saudi

US is at top of list because its been way too active on its 'interests' without due care for consequences. quick fixes, appeasement etc etc and shows no signs of easing off. at this rate no matter what happens, they'll be going into other parts of the world, funding operations and just continueing on. recent events have shown faillures, these events are also faillures for the US

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

You can't put Pakistan before Saudi Arabia on that list. It is the version of Islam that is spread by extremist Saudis that influences many in Pakistan who become terrorists.

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

I'm sick of your generalisations, you get good and bad apples in every community.

I know a Iraqi family who didn't allow their daughter to marry the boy she loved because he was a "Paki" even though this boy was the same religion, Shi'ah, Usuli and even followed the same Marja'-Taqleed as the girls family, they didn't even want to meet him after finding out he was Pakistani...

I also once had an Arab Christian say to me, "I wish India bombs Pakistan, but then who will clean our toilets?."

Racism hurts but hating back is not the answer, I've had Whites, Indians, other ethnicity Pakis... be racist to me and my immediate reaction use to be returning the favour but that doesn't get anyone anywhere, kuttay ko jawaab men bhonktey naheen hain... 'Sab se acha karo lekin kisi se achey ki umeed na rakho' get's you through life.

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

I worship at a Mosque which will be "Wahhaabi" by your definition but never ever have I heard any such BS from any of the Clerics, on the contrary they have always condemned the terrorism carried out by Muslims against non-Muslims as much as the terrorism carried out by non-Muslims against Muslims...

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

So true. An example is how someone I know constantly scolds me for not saying a statement like "bless you" in arabic. I'll say "bless you" in English, and he corrects me, as if he's my baap daada. If I so much as "shukriyah" in Urdu, he corrects me by asking me to use this long drawn out Arabic way of saying thank-you.

Its retarded. Really.

Re: South Asian Muslims’ Self-Hatred

Well, ‘bless you’ is bless you…Muslims say :alhamd: because it means “Praise be to Allah” which is something very unique to Muslims and Islam, something like a patent…

Same with Salam…You can say hello, which is just that, a greeting…However :salam: is not only a greeting but a prayer with good wishes for the person you are meeting and it means, “Peace be with you”…Something very unique to Muslims and followers of the Holy Prophet :saw:…

There are hundreds of small things which are unique to Islam and Muslims, and me being a Muslim, am very proud of them…Wouldn’t give them up for anything…

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

My friend's brother married an Algerian girl and her parents had the nerve to say to his parents, "We don't like Pakistanis." Ignorant fools.

I agree entirely with what you were saying about good and bad apples in every community but on the last page of this very post you wrote that if Arabs look down on Pakistanis it's because most Pakistanis are scum.

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

I'm allowed to say that, I'm Paki myself. :p

If we don't acknowledge our shortcomings we'll never sort them.

Re: South Asian Muslims' Self-Hatred

Nah you said you only hang out with Arabs or whatever and then you said most Pakis (I always hated that word but use it nowadays :( ) are scum.

Thats not acknowledging shortcomings, that's you being very angry towards your own community.

I can't begin to guess another person's experiences but I suspect the Pakistanis you grew up with really angered you in some way or other.

Re: South Asian Muslims’ Self-Hatred

So, you’d be ok with someone saying literally “Peace be upon you” as their greeting? As in the Arabic translated right into English?

You know how many people get wound up by that.

I’m telling you - it doesn’t have to do with the meaning. It has to do with the language. My friend could easily have told me to say whatever the heck he said in Arabic in English, instead, and it should be the same thing. The insistence is upon using Arabic.

And its not my darn language! People need to accept that and move on with their lives.

Arabs are literally the most intolerant people ever. They don’t want to spread Islam. They’re trying hard to protect their culture from dying at the moment, what with all the change the oil boom has brought to them. These are cultural wars you’re seeing today. Islam is just being dragged in for no reason.

^^

In the Islamic circles I have been in, there is great unity...An imam from Indonesia can lead a congregation no matter where his audience is from...Whether from Senegal, US, UK, e.t.c. any Muslim from anywhere can lead a congregation in any country no matter what...That is the great unity that this great religion binds one Muslim to another...

What you are saying is that every country should have the prayers in their native tongue...Every Muslim should say Salam in their native tongue...It would be chaos...

That's why PCG, it is said that little knowledge is worse than no knowledge...
