The most ardent and knowledgeable of soccer fans would not necessarily know who has scored the most international goals or appeared in most FIFA World Cups but most cricket fans do know about common records
An innings defeat is the ultimate ignominy for a team in cricket and if one were being overly critical one might say that Tendulkar and Dhoni’s efforts were in vain since they could not save India from an innings defeat. They merely saved india from a** heavy** innings defeat (if there is such a thing…)
Now coming to the match, india lost it on the first day. When you get bowled out for just 136 in the first innings there is no way you can make sufficient amends for it in the second knock esp. if your bowling is also weak and toothless. I do not think it was a 600+ pitch. The batsmen showed spine in the second innings but the first-innings capitulation was too abject to compensate for in the end.
Nice post GA, I know what you mean by records meaning more in Cricket, but they mean even more in NFL and MLB, however, the media over there has drawn a clear line between winners and record breakers i.e 1st are winners than its the record breakers, who are still judged on their effort of how many times they won the game for their team. A quick example will be comparison between Tom Brady and Payton Manning (NFL), both are high valued stars but everyone knows who is the real winner.
Bring on game #2. For some stupid reason India always starts slow in series.. home or away. I expect them fully to bounce back. MSD needs to win some tosses.. the guy's toss win rate is like 10% or something!!wtF !!
There is possibility as he scored 200 in ODI and now he requires 246 in 2 innings. Mohammad Yousuf socred 102+124=226 in last match of the season. I think Sachine can break bcoz he is in love to make personal record fro him.
I am just wondering how much imact can "J"aheer khan make? He will need support from other end. Its VERY important for India that another bowler (in addition to Jaheer) fires from other end.
