Re: South Africa v Pakistan, 1st ODI, Bloemfontein, 10th March
Unbelievable that Misbah AND Younis in one day line up. Umar Akmal bring kept ourlt is a mystery. I stated Shehzad would do well in T20 - had a good innings till Hafeez ran him out.
Umpires such as Steve Davis scare me. Looks like plenty of such humps exist.
One more thing about commentators - when Aussies or Brits howlers and fielders appeal vigorously for clear not out, western commentators laud it by saying “that was a good shout”. When subcontinent fielders do it Sam commentators"that was a ridiculous shout".
While info Pak fans are busy taking th side of the west when the other country plays. This will keep repeating predictably.
Re: South Africa v Pakistan, 1st ODI, Bloemfontein, 10th March
Who picks FOUR spinners and then fields first on a batting track?
Rotating the damn strike is our biggest weakness, something we haven’t done for a long time
Pak batsmen have problems at the best of times and this new rule requiring FIVE players to be in the circle all the time, has exposed our weakness even more
Limited overs cricket is not just about hitting 4s and 6s. We tend to rely too much on getting the boundaries. Hence get choked by the other teams because they know we are not good at picking up singles and doubles. It was also evident during the 3rd ODI against India recently where we we struggled despite chasing a small total.
There were just two sixes in SA’s entire innings (315). Just shows how well AB and Ingram batted in the middle overs, a lesson for our team.
Re: South Africa v Pakistan, 1st ODI, Bloemfontein, 10th March
Misbah is still not getting the message
says: “Keeping wickets in hand is the key”
Keeping wickets in hand is important but this strategy doesn’t really work against good teams esp. when chasing big scores. Saving wickets does not help if you get stuck down one end or fail to keep pace with the RR by taking singles and doubles. Strike rotation or knocking the ball into space is an even more important aspect of ODI batting, something we aren’t so good at and do really need to improve on.
Re: South Africa v Pakistan, 1st ODI, Bloemfontein, 10th March
Misbah is too defensive to counter SA’s batting or bowling. You bat first on a batting wicket. He takes on a lot of unnecessary pressure with his tuk tuk six approach. It doesn’t look he ‘believes’ he can win or dominate. Hafeez leads the team with a different mindset and takes on pressure as a captain. Misbah on the other hand puts pressure on the team with his ghulam approach.
Even though there were a couple of unlucky dismissals (Hafeez/Misbah), Pak should play an extra batsman. SA batting can win them any game..Pakistan’s only chance is to chase well.
Re: South Africa v Pakistan, 1st ODI, Bloemfontein, 10th March
What a pathetic press conf. He has lost his attacking spirit that he used to have back when he used to bat aggressively. He is more worried about retaining his captaincy then winning games. That is the root of it.
Re: South Africa v Pakistan, 1st ODI, Bloemfontein, 10th March
I don’t agree with his approach. But he made a good point. From 20 overs onwards, Pak was chasing 9 runs per over. At the end required rate <9 runs per over. Shows if set batsmen didn’t get out there was a chance.
But I don’t get not going for singles whenever possible.
Re: South Africa v Pakistan, 1st ODI, Bloemfontein, 10th March
^ The point is you should not find yourself in that position in the first place. When chasing 300+ you need to go at 6 to 6.5 RPO (so that the asking rate doesn’t ever climb above 7-7.5 rPO) from the word go … by milking singles and doubles. It doesn’t have to mean just boundaries
