South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

**If SouthAfrica wins the series … It will move to 1st position

Form guide (last five Tests, most recent first)**
**South Africa LWWWW
****Australia WLLWW

** Pitch and conditions
** There was some rain in the lead-up to the match, which meant that until a couple of days ago the players had not seen the pitch, which was covered by a tent-like structure that allowed the groundsmen to continue working on it. However, both teams are expecting plenty of swing, particularly on the first day, while it could be hard going for batsmen and spinners. There are further storms forecast for the first few days of the Test.

Stats and Trivia

  • Jacques Kallis needs 12 runs to become the first South African to reach 10,000
  • AB de Villiers will become the fourth South African to play 50 consecutive Tests
  • Australia have won the last three Tests between the two sides at the Wanderers and two of the successes were innings victories

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

**Australia 136/3

At one stage .... Australia was 38/3

Almost 100 Runs partnership b/w Ponting and clarke

**

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

**Ponting gone on 83

***Australia 151/4
*

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

**Aus 242-5

They are well back in the game.........
**

Ponting was looking good for another hundred but then completely misjudged an incoming full ball from Ntini to be bowled for 83.

254/5 from 38/3 is some recovery. They could still get upto 350-400. SA have some work to do

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

Australia all out on 466. Johnson got deprived of 100, he was 96* while other batsmen got out. He thrashed Harris for 26 runs, scored 12 out of Steyn’s over to reach 96.

A very good recovery from 38/3 to 466 all out, interesting thing is any batsman who reached double digits went on to score 50+ otherwise the got out in single digit :hehe:

Australia recovered in some style thanks to debutant centurion North's 117 and Johnson's 96

SA made a real mess of their brilliant start yesterday

and are now in serious trouble

5/2 in reply

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

SA 85/3 at stumps day 2.

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

**Not a great day for South Africa :bummer:
**

South Africa have collapsed badly

157/8 de Villiers 63*

still 109 runs away from saving the follow on

Johnson (who is having a great game) and Siddle 3 wickets each

South Africa 184/8.

South Africa 220/9

AB de Villiers 104*

need 27 more to avoid the follow-on

South Africa 220 all out :p

Australia have not enforced the follow-on

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

**I dont know y … but Aussies are reluctant to enforce follow-on :hmmm:
**

I think they had bad result with India or WI in this regard.

Perhaps Ponting wanted to give some rest to his main bowler Johnson who took 4 for 25 and also spent quite a lot of time in the middle in making 96* in Aussies first innings

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

*australia 87/1

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Johannesburg
