Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced it won't be sending a team for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, and has requested the ICC to reschedule the tournament. The decision to withdraw from the tournament, the first-such official statement from a participating nation, comes two days before the ICC board's teleconference on Sunday.

CSA made its decision following the board's meeting with the ICC task force in Johannesburg on Friday. In a statement, CSA said they assessed the presentation made by the team, led by ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat, as well as the information available from a number of other security reports, including one from the South African government, before arriving at a conclusion.

"After extensive discussions and frank exchange of views, the board resolved not to send our team at this time to Pakistan to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy," Norman Arendse, the CSA president, said. "We respect the right of the Pakistan Cricket Board to stage the tournament and we would urge the ICC to reschedule the tournament as soon as possible."

Tony Irish, the South African Cricketers' Association chief executive, said it was a difficult decision, but the right one, keeping in mind the safety of the players. "We appreciate all the efforts of the ICC task team, the PCB, the Pakistan authorities and the security consultants," he said. "The players are naturally disappointed for their fans and the people of Pakistan that they will not have a chance to see them in action in that country in September."

Irish had earlier stated the players' reluctance to travel to Pakistan, echoing the thoughts of players' bodies in Australia and New Zealand. South Africa's pullout would increase the pressure on other boards to follow suit, and leave the ICC in a dilemma over the staging of the tournament.

is zimbabwe n bang are ready for another series ?

Re: South Africa pulls out of Champions Trophy

Excellent decision by South Africa. It's not easy to play in an environment where bombs are flying out everyday. How can you play in an open stadium with 10 thousand policemen around. It's just not cricket. Sorry for the Pakistani cricket fans but they hardly go to stadiums anyway. If they watch it on tv then I would rather stage every cricket match in Australia. Good coverage.

Re: South Africa pulls out of Champions Trophy

In the current circumstances I dont blame these teams for not coming to Pakistan. It is natural for them to feel apprehensive and fearful for their lives. Sad and sorry state of affairs but that is the bitter reality.

Re: South Africa pulls out of Champions Trophy

I think ICC should move the CT to Sri Lanka or any other place.

I agree. I would do the same thing if I was them. Think about all the trauma and tension their families would have to go through. It's just not worth it.

We should shift our whole Pakistan families to Australia too...I guess....just run away and let Terrorist enjoy the beauty...............We should not stand up to them....thats all they want and we are giving to them..............

Re: South Africa pulls out of Champions Trophy

Unfortunate decision by S.A .If India can play in Pakistan,S.A can also play.

You shouldn't run away because it's your country. Stand up against the retards and get your nation back. Why should rich sportsmen from other countries come to your country risking their lives and putting their families and closed ones in mental trauma for a month?

y these rich sportsmen were at Jaipur n London after the terrorist acts ?
ohh … to get enuff money to have a checkup for trauma somewhere ?:halo:

Re: South Africa pulls out of Champions Trophy

India has toured Pakistan and also Srilanka recently.I do not understand why there is so much cry over internal problems when it comes to touring pakistan by a few boards..

Re: South Africa pulls out of Champions Trophy

i guess now even westindies has shown concerned touring pakistan :hayaa:

Re: South Africa pulls out of Champions Trophy

It's not about race or color of your skin. it's about the reality. I talk to my cousins in PK and they tell me that things are really bad. What we see on TV is nothing compared to the fear that runs through their minds living there. I know death can come any place any time but knowingly nobody will board a boat with holes.

Can you imagine 10,000 policemen in one place? The terroists have so far been targeting the law enforcement, right?

Re: South Africa pulls out of Champions Trophy

y me or ppl i know fear the same thing ........
i thought i was living in pakistan too

because the chance of india or london getting bombed is a lot less than pakistan… chances of crap happening in pakistan were already bad but they got worse in the lsat 2 weeks with mushy resigning + 2-3 back to back blasts..

we indians are used to have bomb blast once in every 6 months .

Excellent...excellent post.

Also, games in Australia are great bat and ball contests unlike the dead pitches of the subcontinent.

Yes they would go to a place after " A" bomb blast … as in the case of Jaipur and London … it happened one day … for Pakistan check the list of blasts / terrorist attacks from Aug 1 to Aug 18 … there has been enough bloodshed …

Another thing that everyone seems to avoid discussing is the role of BCCI in this they have been standing solidly behind Pakistan cricket board
