I am having a hard time understanding what kind of abuse Australian spectators are hurling towards the Saffies. And why is South Africa the target? They mostly look like Australians. If it was targeted to Pakistanis or West Indians, I would have understood.
What kind of racial remarks could they possibly be dishing out to the Saffies? Help me understand.
This kind of sledging is nothing out of the ordinary. What really created a controversy was use of the terms like "kaffirs' and "kaffir sons" by some spectators, which are very offensive terms in SA, even carrying a prison sentence. However, these terms aren't familiar in aussie vocabulary, so crowd controllers didn't notice those. this mainly happened in Perth, which has a large presence of south-african migrants.
