Sources of Happiness

There are people in this world who are made very happy easily by material things. Shopping therapy to a certain extent makes everyone feel better. But what are the other real sources of happiness for you? Where do you look for happiness if you arent a materialistic person?

And by this I refer to sources of happiness which arent vague. Nothing dependant on others. Something you can get as easily as walking into a store and buying something.

Cool drink on a hot day :)

Re: Sources of Happiness

Even if we r walking into a store and buying something, we r still being dependent on that thing which is gonna be the source of our happiness.

Btw, nice topic :). Very few topics here makes one think but this one really does! I'll get back to this shortly.

Re: Sources of Happiness

I thought this would be good. For me something easily available is being able to go for a long drive at night. OR lying on my back on the roof under a night sky.

OR cooking with friends

Re: Sources of Happiness

but what about it when one thing makes u happy ( for instance, shopping) and the very next moment it doesn't give u pleasure anymore..

Re: Sources of Happiness

I love teaching people and watching them try their best to learn a new language.
I think its quite beautiful when other people are interested in what you do and that makes me happy :)

Re: Sources of Happiness

My point was in every and any case at all, you are still being dependent on someone or something. In the ones you've mentioned above, ur being dependent on a transport :p, roof and a back 2 lie on :D and friends n material 2 cook with. lols.

Re: Sources of Happiness

Im not speaking of dependancy. If it seemed as such I apologise. Im asking, for someone who isnt materialistic as such, what are the sources of happiness? Idea inspired from noticing extreme joy over purchases one day. Lets not derail the thread and speculate that perhaps the purchases signified something else.

Re: Sources of Happiness

1. Going out for dinners and coffee. I dislike take-aways, I rather dine out anytime!

2. Long drives with the people I love.

3. Spending time with my nephew. He's just the most special kid and I love him so much.

4. Watching a nice movie/listening to good music.

5. Having a good discussion/debate.

6. When i am all waxed/threaded sigh.

Re: Sources of Happiness

But they could have. We can't say for sure. Derailing the thread was not the plan but correcting your perception was :). Anyways,...

Re: Sources of Happiness

Shopping makes me very happy esp when I find stuff that I really like. I also get very very happy with luxurious things like facials, pedicures, massages etc.

But I only enjoy these things when I am with my family or very close friends. Otherwise, I am trying to run out of the mall asap.

So I guess at the end of the day, my family's and friends's company is a huge source of happiness for me. I don't enjoy anything without them.

Listening to Azaan from a distance.

Smell of wet soil after a rain.

Taking a bath after a hectic day.

Smell and touch of a baby.

Having a light gupshup over a cup of tea with my wife and parents.

Above all, nothing better than talking to Allah (swt) and sharing my problems with HIM
