Traditionally, sour cream was made by letting fresh cream “go off” or sour naturally - the acids and bacteria present produced a generally consistent flavour and thick texture that went well with both sweet and savoury dishes.
The commercial method of producing sour cream is even more disgusting!

“Sour cream is made by inoculating pasteurized light cream with bacteria cultures, letting the bacteria grow until the cream is both soured and thick, and then repasteruizing it to stop the process.”

So basically, they pour in live bacteria which then feeds on the cream and poops out lactic acid which makes the cream thick and sour and you pay big bucks to eat that. Enjoy!
LOL what is so disgusting about how sour cream, cheese or yoghurt is made? As long as it tastes good, I don't care how it is made LOL... btw it's been ages that we are eating these things, it shouldn't even matter now.
