Its feelings which dominate this city and cannot be described in words. If you have lived in this city even for a short time , you are its part .Here no one ask you about your background , city , ethinicity or language but everyone is Lahori , simple
I mean to say that in this city you would never see diffrences on basis of ethnicity , language or historical background lineage like we see in other cities like in Karachi there are seperate areas of Muhajjirs , Punjabis and Patanhs , tensions and even City Nazim sometimes even not properly look Sohrab Goth as its area of Pathan or Lyari for being a strong hold of PPP.
But in Lahore , just for example in my street , there are 3 homes of shias, 4 of urdu speakings , 2 of Muhajirrs from east Punjab , some are from Faisalabad , Bahalwalpur ,Multan ,Gujrat ,Kashmiri ,Karnal of India ,Sahiwal .myself from Patankot ,Eastern Punjab some are PPP supporters rest are PML(N) some are Jamaitiyai etc etc.
But no one even bother about all these things. They all live in Lahore so they are Lahoris and thats all . No one discrimanate you of your past , lineage, language or political affiliation.Even if they left the city or go abroad or remained in it for a brief time of thier life , they CANNOT forget about thier linkage to this city .The nostalgia of this city always remain with them in thier whole life.I have heard this from a lot of people who left it but never forgotten it.Specially if anyone has a connection with Inner-Lahore Area , its fascinating culture and history is always remains fresh in thier minds
Re: Soul of Lahore, for Lahoris and those who have been to Lahore
Faisalabad and Gujranwala have developed a lot over the last two decades and I have seen that myself. Multan has nice infrastructure. But I do agree that we have put in too much resources into developing bigger cities. We should have invested in smaller cities more.
I had a feeling this might get into Lahore v/s other cities. Anyways... this thread is not about that. Please go to chowk dot com to compare Pakistani cities. Every third post there ends up into a intercity bashing story.
Could we have some comments on the questions I posted?
How about "Laid back, cheerful and ever surprising" ?
Re: Soul of Lahore, for Lahoris and those who have been to Lahore
my ancestors ancestors were all from lahore.. even before partition ( it can be traced back to early 19th century)... the design of lahore railway station was designed by one of my ancestor. When subcontinenct was partitioned, one of my ancestor had the job to allot the houses left by hindus of Lahore to people living in Lahore.. Some of the old mosques today in Lahore were built by my ancestor. I really am proud to be from that city. One really cant explain in words about the beauty of this city...its this great feeling u get being in Lahore, which is hard to put in words.
