I would try youTube, cos i can’t seem to find any documentation on advanced tutorials…
From my experience ... Sony Vegas is just an editing application like FCP & Premiere
just basic Cut, Copy, Paste , Squeeze & lil bit of Colour Correction ...
if you want to work on effects ... you need After effects or compositing software like Fusion , Nuke & Shake

I have After Effects, Sound Track Pro, Final Cut Studio, Vegas and Videoshop Pro.
It come's with being in the field of media and studying it. Also at my internship with Dubai One TV we use Avid Newscutter to edit the news pieces etc for broadcasting.

Well I have no other choice, we edit movies etc in our university using Final Cut Studio Pro on our iMacs. Also all the movies that I have made, I edited them using Final Cut and the soundtrack was created using SoundTrack Pro.
One Advise … first try the trial version for 30 days .. then make up your mind …
To b more clear … FCP is not a substitute for after effects … its Apple Motion

if u really wana blow mind ... try to get into CG world .. i mean 3d softs like 3ds max , Maya ... they cost alot but Blender is a free alternative
now after years of experience on Max & lil on Maya ...
I m learning Blender (amazing soft ) & sideFX Houdini ( one hell of soft) expensive but for personal use i think in 99$ u get HD rendering version
