KARACHI: A car bomb exploded outside a golf club staging a peace concert, featuring singer Sonu Nigam and Pakistani artists, in Karachi on Saturday, killing one person and injuring six others, police and medical officials said.
The bomb exploded at 11 pm in a car that attempted to overtake a line of vehicles at a security checkpoint to get into the parking lot of the club, said Abdul Ghaffar Jumani, a Karachi police inspector.
Hospital officials said that the dead man was a 30-year-old Karachi inhabitant. Two of the injured were children.
The club was staging an outdoor musical performance featuring visiting Nigam and local Pakistani artists.
No one claimed responsibility for the explosion, and police said they had no motive. The small, maroon-coloured car was blown apart by the powerful explosion and caught fire. Four other cars were damaged.
The way things are going on in Karachi these days I wouldn't think that this one was intended for Sonu Nigam’s life. I'm not sure but maybe this person is just trying to tell the Indians to stay in their country.
still cant understand what exactly happened. at around 11pm sat night ARY reported the breaking news that there had been an explosion outside the concert venue and that the concert was cancelled.
there was no news anywhere else and newspapers in the morning today said there was a car blast on the road outside the venue and 2 died 6 injured, and a concert with Sonu Nigam was under way nearby. no connection hinted...
either authorities are trying to hide it...or reduce the gravity of the issue or certin news channels are making it a big deal and connecting it with Sonu Nigam for no reason.
by the way does anyone know if the concert took place at all...or was it cancelled...?
From what i know, the explosion took place before the concert even started. The concert definitely went on....and most of the concert goers did not even know about the blast, which took place outside, in the parking area I believe. Those who were outside were the ones who really knew about it.
