The Resolute Support Twitter account announced this morning, “Ali Haider Gilani, Pakistan ex-PM’s son, rescued today in Giyan District, Paktika Prov by US Special Ops Forces/AFG Commandos partnered raid.” This must have been the much awaited news, particularly for former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yusuf Raza Gilani, his family and the people of Pakistan at large.
The combined counterterrorism mission retrieved Gilani from a compound in Giyan district of Paktika province, which borders Pakistan, said a statement from the U.S military in Kabul. We, at USCENTCOM, congratulate the Afghan and US team that conducted this mission, and for sending a clear message to the enemy that no matter what, we will eventually catch up with you.

If my memory serves me right, he kidnapped from Lahore and smuggled to Afghanistan...i wonder if it was same time when General Ijaz was heading or helping smuggler groups on Pak- Afgan border!!!

From what I remember, Gillani's son was kidnapped for ransom, and when Gillani family failed/refused to pay, he was sold off to the Afghan Taliban, who tried to bargain his release with the release of some of their high profile prisoners.
Since army is a convenient punching bag for every 2 jamaat paas political leader, we can always blame it on them, even though Gillani's son was kidnapped in Multan from civilian jurisdiction. Who cares if the police is inept, or has been intentionally kept inept

This and the taseer release .. These ppl were in custody for so many years.. Even operation started , it is very easy for the ppl holding them to kill them easily rather than release them. They were having knowledge about the kidnappers... ??

The only point is, if This particular army general have focused more on eliminating terrorists and cross border smuggling then it was possible this guy and taseer couldn't be shifted to Afghanistan..

Unfortunately these criminal acts without accountability are committed by few who control the whole army.

Story on the kidnap and release of Gillani’s son… from whatsapp 
Story on the “recovery” of the son is that smugglers of tribals wanted Yousuf Gillani (the then PM of Pakistan) to have their favorite person be made the “political agent” of Mohmand Agency and they gave Rs 25 crore to YRG. YRG took the money and promised them that they will get the appointment. YRG kept 2 crore and passed the rest to his ‘boss’ for favor, this was in 3rd week of May 2012. In June 2012 YRG was dismissed from govt and he could not get the appointment needed so he lost the 23 crore and the opportunity. He promised them that Raja Pervez was his man and himself was a big person in PPP so he will get it done. But he couldn’t get it done in few weeks time, after a month the tribals returned and said they got their man in the slot so they don’t need the favor and asked for money back.
Gillani had already passed the big chunk to big boss so he could not get it back but gave the 2-crore he kept. They took the 2-crore and told YRG to return the rest and that they will be waiting in Sindbad hotel in Multan for 3 days. YRG called up police to arrest the tribals, they were arrested but they were released in March 2013. They went to YRG again and told him that they spent the 2 crore on their release now he owed them 30-crore. YRG got mad and told them that he was the ex-PM and can’t be threatening him at his own place. The tribals returned back to their home.
Few weeks later the son was kidnapped for ransom. Security agencies tracked them and kept informing YRG of progress. YRG leaked the info to his ‘reliable journalist friend’ who then broadcasted the “new” to be famous for ‘first breaking news provider’… the tribals learnt about it and ran to Afghanistan, some of them got left behind and were arrested by police. Police demanded Rs 25 crore for the release of these tribals (
). Now the demand of ransom jumped to Rs 55 crore to which YRG did not agree. After 2 years an businessman friend of Gillani paid the ransom and got him released.
