Something I was wondering about actors

Tabloids are full of stories about actors’ lives and how funny, tragic, out of the ordinary, weird, messed up and, or strange they are. And this includes Pakistani actors. Divorce, fights with spouse, cheating, frequent dating seems like a common theme in their life.

I have come to the conclusion that they need to lead these kind of lives in order to be actors. How would an actor know what a messed up fight with the wife is like if he has never had one? Or how emotions play out during a divorce? Or the feeling of rejection and heart break after a break up.

To be a good actor, one has to have experienced the range of emotions that they will be portraying in their characters.

You raise an interesting point: to be a good actor one has to have experienced the range of emotions that they will be portraying in their characters. I think having diverse experiences will certainly help an actor. However, I am not convinced this point motivates the behavior.

I think part of what we might see might come from the culture of professions. For instance, the philosophy about dating and fidelity might be influenced by the culture defined by peers of an actor.

As for other happenings like fights with spouse and the like, I think this is a matter that happens across population. It's just that the tabloids are focused on those with fame, and thus we see only their drama.

Re: Something I was wondering about actors

Good observation TDW...but not sure if it really applies to the majority of actors/acrtresses. Ive known many and while they do actually have much drama in their lives, its the drama that they thrive on...and likely what drew them to the profession in the first place. Not that I'm saying they're bad people or anything...I've met many lovely people in that field.

Another thing to point out is that most families have much drama in them. They just dont live in the public eye as actors/actresses do. So every time they make a move, it makes headlines. Every time they go out, they're followed by photogs and gossip mongers. I imagine that could drive anyone kinda nuts.

A great actor or actress doesnt really need to have experienced the things that they portray....they can empathize and "get into character" without ever having gone thru something like their character has. I mean, think about all the different types of roles they could possibly play - everything from demons to angels to prehistoric cavemen to historical figures and I could go on....most of the great ones havent personally experienced anything remotely similar to the characters they portray.

The drama is to be in the lime-light.. and get coverage. A real actor/actress doesn't need drama to excel in their real career which is acting. Some actors are just better in real life then on screen..
