but I have been wondering ever since what exactly is a gentleman? I mean how do we define a gentleman?

I think everyone hav their own definitions of ‘gentleman’ according to their culture n environments… personally… I dont ask for much.. i never did .. but for me the gentle man is, who is…

Fanta sawal acha hai. Well I don't know the definition of a gentleman but I think one has to be realistic and keep in mind that no one is perfect. A gentleman can be some one caring, understanding, a little bit flexible and willing to say "yes I was wrong' if needed.
Fanta sometimes looking / waiting too much can lead to nothing but negatives.
P.S. : some gentleman are for "dekhawa" only. In real life they can be real jerks. One of my relatives is like that. He is very well dressed, very courteous, talks sweet but very un-gentlemanly in the privacy of his home with his wife and kids.
