ISLAMABAD: The Saudi authorities have reportedly seized a scrap-shredder plant allegedly imported from Israel by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
**Under the Saudi laws, all Israeli items are banned in the kingdom. Sources said that Nawaz’s company, Hill Metals Establishment, had forged documents to import the plant. Car crushing machines were bought from the local market for the plant, while the main metal-shredder plant was to be imported.

The plant manufactured by SERAM UK Limited was sold to an Israeli company 10 years ago. The deal was signed in Jeddah on January 19 by Hussain Nawaz in his capacity as managing director of Al Azizia Steel and Hill Metals Establishment, and Roy Woolcock of the Seram UK Limited, who reportedly represents the Israeli company.
A letter of credit of four million Saudi riyals was opened in the name of Hill Metals Establishment in the National Commercial Bank of Saudi Arabia. Sources claimed Hussain also allegedly assessed the worth of the plant at $40,000 to save customs duty.
The plant was dismantled and ferried on 17 trailers from Israel via Jordan. Abu Amir was appointed a customs clearing agent to handle the consignment in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi authorities got suspicious of the plant and found that the trade labels of the Israeli company were scratched, repainted and documents accordingly prepared to conceal the original identity of the equipment. Sources said Hussain met Saudi Customs authorities on April 15 along with a senior official to release the plant. The custom authorities told him that Israeli products were banned in Saudi Arabia.
The authorities have seized three trailers, while Nawaz is allegedly trying to bring the remaining 14 containers from Al-Zarqa Free Zone in Jordan through some other routes. app
This seemed to be Pak Govt's yet another attempt to defame NS clan. What’s wrong with importing from Israel? Leaders of SA are pet dogs of Uncle Sam why they care? They are inactive even desecration of Holy Quraan and other atrocities committed against Muslims all over the world?
these saudis! jewish soldiers from the US are saving the saudi royal behind from being immolated by fellow fidels but they have a problem with israeli plant! so much for the camel brigade
Who said anything is wrong in Importing from Israel, but having said there is something called Law of the Land, so if in KSA it is illegal, then it is illegal in KSA, How would you feel if your countries laws are broken by someone who can get away with it.
I agree there is nuthin wrong with trading, but if it violates law of the land then there is something wrong.
It doesnt end there. They try to under-invoice the machinery ($40,000) to avoid paying duties. Old habits die hard.
Lets not confuse this with Saudi Govt controversies, they too are a dispicable lot, but this deals with a ex-PM of Pakistan and sud be judged on those basis.
