This was a freehand sketch which I produced last year for part of my art exam preperation work. I built the head up from a skull, adding the eye and features on top, to try and get a ‘realistic’ look for the proportions (as far as you can with a mythological creature).
I gave the dragon a bit of personification with a humanistic eye, I thought it gave a sly intelligent look, whoever has read the hobbit and knows of ‘smaug’ might have a feel for the type of character i was trying to create.
Done with pencils and outlines with fineline pen.

this was done in Paint Shop Pro and Photo Shop. Used lots of brushes.(no plugins/filters)..and i was very pleased with the outcome/result of it.
