GTG , that was a proper horror story, you must have been so relieved for keeping baby in for another few weeks.
Thanks so much guys for all the valuable input. Yeah I am indeed thinking too much into it. Just that this is the first experience, alot of terminology is new to me and I have almost no knowledge of this stuff so some of these questions I have are out of curiosity, some out of concern coz I hear some terminology and start thinking if its good or bad !
Also now that I know its 37 weeks that is considered full term, I am sort of relieved within. Also now that I have read that tummy measurements done mean as much , I am now thinking more along the lines of “baby will come close to EDD” , otherwise honestly, the very naive me thought, wow baby is getting bigger quickly it will come out quicker ! So yeah I am feeling relieved now
As long as there is enough amniotic fluid and no stress on the placenta, I’ve seen a few doctors here in India wait till 42 weeks. If they doubt on either the amniotic fluid or stress on placenta, they induce any time after 36 weeks. My first was 39 weeks and 5 days and a C section as the baby passed stools inside and so it was an emergency. My second was 38 weeks and a C section again as it was a big baby (I had gestational diabetes starting from 4th month onwards).
If you are worried abt the holidays, just ensure that you are on bed most of the time and keep calm. Should help you to quite some extent. Keep cool and may god bless you and the little one with lots of good health.
Prayers for you CB! I am petite too like gtg said n my baby was bigger 8.5lbs…so doc said next time be extra careful about your diet…because when full term the baby just gain weight n i was eating loads of desserts…keep track of baby’s weight n discuss it with your doc n eat healthy!
like the others said, the measurements don’t really mean much if the doc isn’t worried. if theres a problem the docs won’t take risks with you and your baby’s safety. some one i know was measuring too small considering she was in her last trimester, so the docs did a bunch of ultrasounds on her and said that the baby wasn’t growing as much as he should , so they induced her at 37ish weeks. as for me, the doc kept telling me i was measuring big and had 2 ultrasounds done and deducted that i had excess fluid, but i was told not to worry since i was borderline. my baby was born at 6 pounds 9 ounces, and everyone in the hospital kept saying how small he was. that pissed me off no end. pehle they kept saying he would be huge and then he turned out small for their standards.
What is considered a normal weight for a baby at the time of birth? This has been another confusion point for me, Pakistani ladies told me it should be at least 9 pound .. gori friends told me even 4 pound is good enough … so which one is it?
In the uk the hospitals normal baby weight is from about 6-7pound. My eldest was 8.4 and middle one was 9.4 and the youngest was 8.2 and they kept saying my babies were big babies with peeved me off too. Dont worry in shaa allah all will go well, just remember your breathing techniques believe me they really do help, lots of prayers and hugz for you
My specialist said anything between 7-7.5 pounds is average. thats a bit much i think. mine was 6.9, but all the nurses and docs i met kept commenting on how small he was and that it was a good thing since i was small and couldn’t have pushed out a big baby anyway. sooo annoying i tell u.
EDD is based on last period therefore pregnancy is said to be 40 weeks long. Technically though, if a woman has a regular 4 week cycle then ovulation occurs on day 14 and fertilization in a day or two. Therefore the actual pregnancy is 38 weeks long. 37 is considered to term but 38 is very common. If baby is not born at 38 weeks most doctors do not induce for another week or two.
This is not from personal experience but from what I’ve learned at school.
The medical term is macrosomia and these are babies over 9 pounds. That is over 90 percentile of for gestational age so its not average. 50% percentile lands around 6.5 to 7.5 pounds. I don’t think you should be worried because doctors know what to look out for.
Thanks ladies .. Canadian that was immensely helpful ..
I have another question now, told you, i am going banana’s with questions of all sort!
So at that midwife’s, she weighed me and I am about 12Kg from actual weight. she felt the tummy and said baby is probably longer in size .. I asked could it mean that the baby is big weight wise? she said no , considering my own weight gain, which was pretty much within average numbers, it didnt look like the baby was getting alot of weight. so it was a clear indication that the baby is just tall.
anyone here knows this logic? is this another one of those midwives going coo coo or is this for real?
Go and sleep, thats the best way to stop thinking of too many questions. Dont have an information overload…if you ask us for opinions all of us have diff experiences and its very difficult for you to experience so many experiences. Keep calm, eat well, think positive and all will be OK by the grace of god!
Cb which part of the uk do u live in? They say first babies r usually late i liv in London and they told me they will book me for induction at 41 wk appointment but my baby came 1 day before 41 weeks. As far as ur tummy is concerned it could b a case of the baby’s position making it seem tall. if u measure around the same amount of centimetres as weeks pregnant its all good don’t worry about size n weight of baby yet it’s after they r out of ur secure womb that’s wen u need to keep an eye.
Yes also babies lose weight (water weight)at first 10 to 12days of their life…so dont get upset cb and height shouldnt be of concern…once the head is out ,rest of baby’s body comes out very easily whether tall or short…and many women have delivered babies withi10lbs n more of weight…so dont worry abt weight either…may Allah bless you with healthy babyandeasiest delivery Ameen!
CB these measurements are just approximate, don’t kill your self over measurements. In my first pregnancy at 9 months the midwives kept checking me for gestational diabetes as they thought my tummy looked big and i wasn’t allowed to eat anything other than raw veges and my monkey was just 4 pounds at birth. In my second pregnancy, they thought i wasn’t gaining enough weight and i looked like a 3 month preggo rather than 8 monthn but buggy was 8 pounds. Don’t worry , InshAllah you will have a safe delivery and a happy and healthy baby.
