some cooking question

Can we buy already fried/browned onion? I don’t like smell on onion so. I cook it with covered pot and spray feebeze.
Can non stick ware speed up cooking process?? since nothings sticks so nothing burns and you can use high temperature. (I know I know I am too smart)

Re: some cooking question

Yes you can use fried onions but I have found result a bit different (I'd not say bad) than fresh-cut-and-fried onions. I prefer fresh onion and keep friend one for emergency.

Secondly, we have wasted so much money on non-stick pots. Bought from cheap-ones to 300-400$ sets but nothing worked for more than a year and non-stick material started to come off (you should throw the pan in such case). Mainly its due to the fact that most of our dishes have boned meat. From last couple of years we are using stainless steel and life is good. I'd suggest Stainless steel with think base (qtr inch base).

For smell, make sure about proper ventilation and candles.

Re: some cooking question

monk, there must be a packet of fried onions in the desi store if that’s what you mean but what i’ve found is that those onion pieces have a lot of oil in them being fried for my tastebuds, but for you it might be what you’re looking for. try that…ooooooo monk’s cooking :hugz:

Re: some cooking question

if you really dont like the smell that much you could do a batch fry of a whole bag of onions one day a month and freeze the fryed onions.

As Decent 6Chora and Nisha25 have said the packet fried ones are oily and to be honest a not good value for money when you think you could buy 1kg of raw onions for the same price as a 100g packet.

Non stick pan does not mean non burn.

Re: some cooking question

Desi stores have fried onions and then there is a US brand known as french fried onions.
Desi onions are deep brown as required by some desi salans. french fried onions are not brown but taste so freaking good that you can eat them with paratha or roti and are dry , not oily at all , I do not know how they do it.
I use both kind. My wife uses only desi ones and yes it saves your house from smelling and lot of other headaches.

Re: some cooking question

You can buy a pack of pre-fried onions from your local desi market.

But other than that…what kind of khichri are you cooking? You can only cook trouble…pata nahin kya banaa kar khaa gaye ho. :hehe:

Re: some cooking question

You can buy store-bought fried onions or you could fry them in large quantities and freeze them.
