Reading a news article it showed enormous pay gap between pakistan players and rest of world elite teams. Even sri lanka pay their players more than 3 times more the pak players unbelievable!

Yes it slow as compared to other countries but they still earn a lot more than most of Pakistanis even doctors and engineers and not to forget they do earn through endorsements, county cricket and domestic cricket as well...
Greed cannot be justified...

i dont believe every player is earning big money from endorsements maybe one or two, i not making excuse what the players did was disgusting and bring shame on nation.
But we need solutions not more swearing and shouting and increasing the wages is one idea because these are superstars of pakistan but they paid peanuts compared to other nations.

Unfortunately as per the allegations those 'one or two' are the ones involved.

Thats almost Rs. 250,000 per month, no small amount by any means. Besides, they get winning bonuses, etc, match fees, endorsements, presidential awards, all for winning one lousy match a year.

250,000 rupees is a lot. Doctors in government hospitals only get like 13,000 a month and that also most of the times their salaries are not paid to them for months! Like someone said, greed cannot be justified. They were still doing a lot better than other average pakistanis, even with 22,000 pounds. How else do you think Shoaib Malik got the ribs to give 60 lak hak mehr or something.

You know most of the times, I don't know about in Pakistan but here, most of the times it is the labourers etc who are more honest than so many other people. We hear news of labourer helping someone, or taxi driver returning wallets or something all the time. Being poor does not mean they compromise their values and Iman.

If you compare the average man to these sports stars yes the cricketers get paid well but when you compare these cricketers to their opponents in sri lanka or even west indies there wages does not look so great.
Don't get me wrong taking bribes to lose games is disgusting and they have embarrassed the nation but we need to look for a cure for the bribes and corruption shouting will not solve problem. Also the structure of the PCB needs to change more accountability and strict control so this situation never happens again.

I'll answer your Police question. First of all NOT everyone of the Police is corrupt. I know because my uncle is SSP of Lahore. Secondly, it also has to do with the society those policemen are in. We have told them that it is okay to take bribes etc. We have given them the free reigns and now some of them do what they want to. The whole society in a way is corrupt. They are merely individuals and the traits of the society transcend down to them too. If from the beginning people/leaders had told the Police Force that bribe/rishwat khori is not right and it won't be tolerated and had done something about it, it wouldn't have been that bad right now.
Also I think it is unfair to compare salaries between players of different countries. England, Australia and the rest of the countries are in a much better shape than Pakistan, economic wise. We have been plagued with natural disasters and other incidents. We don't have the money to give to the players. Our cricket patron ate all the money out of Pakistan. It's all about leadership, first we should change that, and things like these will start to become better too.

The police that have decent salary won't have the need for rishwat/ bribes i agree, the police who get paid peanuts and cannot even have enough money end of month to put clothes on their children you think they will listen to ghaddari and co these people who live in mansions and have no contact with people in street you must be joking they poorly paid police almost have no choice but to take bribes to survive.
To compare other countries cricket salary is fair because these pakistan are playing against them all the time ok you cannot pay the top £400,000 because Pakistan economically is much worse situation but at least they should be able to match the sri lankans and west indies come on.
On leadership issue i agree it is the government which makes the society like jungle where bribery is common as pepsi!

These figures are extremely misleading since they seem to be talking about the "salaries" or retainers for central contract that the players are paid each month. This does not include the match fees, the bonuses, the winnings, the awards etc. The list shows the Indians as #4 in the list, behind Aus, Eng, SA, when everyone knows that Indians are the highest paid cricketers in the world. Dhoni a few weeks ago signed an endorsement deal worth $43 million for 2 years!
On top of the salaries, the players get about Rs. 300,000 for each match they play. If they only play 10 matches in a year (and they play much more than 10, including Tests, ODIs, T20s, etc), they will easily more than double their salary. Add the prize money, the man of the match awards, etc. on top of that, and you arrive at an even higher amount. And then there's the money received from playing county cricket, leagues, IPL, etc. For the year 2008, Mohammad Asif received $650,000 for playing 4 weeks of T20 cricket! And I haven't even talked about endorsements and other commercial deals.
PCB paid Mohammad Yousaf around Rs. 1 crore to get him back from ICL. Mohammad Asif was easily able to write Rs. 1 crore+ check to repay his loan to Veena Malik. Yousaf owns two Mercedes's (and that was 5 years ago). Most of the others players are seen driving around in SUVs, Prados, Land Cruisers, etc.
Cricketers are the highest paid professionals in Pakistan. There is now way their greed can be justified.

I agree with Brahmachari and as for police corruption that is an internal matter of the country, the policemen are not going abroad representing Pakistan at International level. Pakistan's image and integrity as a country is not at stake. These cricketers are highly paid and not only that, they are famous and endorse brands whose posters can be seen around Pakistan and at the same time have the job of being Pakistani Ambassadors abroad. Nothing justifies what they have done. Not even salaries.

right on! That's precisely what i wanted to say. Corruption is not just confined to the police and it is not as a result of less wages. Ppl earning alot more are far more corrupt. It's about greed!
