ISLAMABAD, Jan 17 (AP) Dozens of Pakistani troops abandoned an outpost near the border with Afghanistan Thursday after receiving threats from militants, an intelligence official, a local resident and a spokesman for the insurgents said. However, an army spokesman immediately denied that the post at Saklatoi in South Waziristan had been evacuated. ‘‘I strongly contradict this news and this post is in our control,’’ said Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas. The conflicting reports could not immediately be reconciled.
The intelligence official, who requested anonymity, said the paramilitary troops fled the roadside post without a fight after the militants warned them to vacate or face attack. The official, who was in the area, said the troops had already reached a military base in the nearby Jandola town.
Maulvi Mohammad Umar, a purported militant spokesman, said the troops surrendered after 500 fighters surrounded the post. ‘‘We released them (the troops) under the spirit of Islam,’’ he said by telephone from an undisclosed location.
''The Taliban have now hoisted their white flag on the fort.‘’ A resident in Jandola said the troops had abandoned the post, citing accounts from other tribesmen who had passed by the fort and seen it.
What’s the solution for all this chaos??What should Military/Govt. do?? Should they deploy Army/Airforce in the area , removing them from the border with India?

This is what happens when you don't use the Pakistan Army in a war zone.
The Frontier Corps are an ineffective combat force as events of the past week have shown. We need the Army in the FATA, not Interior Ministry paramilitaries.
The Pakistan Army would not flee just by threats. That's why we need the army put in the FATA instead! Bring in real soldiers and get the FC out of there!

The army isn't on the Indian border right now. They are in barracks. They only get put on the border when tensions are high, because it is a hostile and expensive act to keep troops always on the borders.

I agree with that. I think regular army would definitely cut the loses, but I'm not sure why the govt hasn't that yet. I mean with incidents like these its only emboldening terrorist to take fight to cities.

How about Kashmir and Siachen? Anyways Pakistan had not planned it right, India established its base in Tajikistan at Farkhor air base , also securing grounds in Afghanistan and Iran encircling Pakistan, now the military is so scared it can't take its eyes off from problems with India, to do anything in FATA.

^^ sorry, but I doubt if Indians are really interested in our jihad infested land. As for Taliban, the govt really has no policy for FATA. Its keeps rotating governors hoping they might be able to change things on the ground through miracle work. Anyway, its now or never...or we can say good bye to Pakistan.

No , it's not Indian aggression...It's our militaries pre-occupation with Indian "agenda" that i am talking about. This crackdown would not stop just by sending 2 Army Batallions to the area,it would involve moving half of the force in FATA and massive amount of force. Remember you are fighting substantial resistance there.

Emboldening is an understatement... These people are destroying the credibility of the govt completely. These terrorists could declare indepndance today and the Govt would be forced to accept it.

Wait few weeks the good news will start coming from northern areas, remember actual military was only deploy in swat area, you just cant start doing operation without securing your back. Let them clear swat and other areas then they will move on. The problem is you can't do operation in a area like wazirestan unless ground routes are secured.
P.S. Swat is declare cleared yesterday by DGMO, he also says "bait ullah masood ko bi apne anjam tuk pounchaein gein"..

Yep true, the problem is our own people are killing us.
Another truth is Govt. is/has bn hesitating to define a line between taliban and local militants.
When beloved president wanted to make usa a happy , Guess what???? he didn't kill taliban he bombed our own people.

^^ get your facts right you are becoming laughing stock of gs, pak army never fire on public except in east Pakistan. You mention about balch and nwfp operations, what should you given to people roses, when they are working against the rit of gov.
