August 2006 is here!! it’s celebration time through out the month…to see green and white flags mounted on rooftops, kids putting up “jhandiyans”…that patriotic spirit. Ppl wearing those flag brooches across their chests, the preparations, the decorations and the final count down to the big day. Yup…**14th August **[youm-e-azadi ka din]…one definitely misses it all when living abroad but the thought of one’s country is never far away.

Fine there r things some of us don’t like about our motherland / country (myself included), we occasionally bicker about it, criticize, blame and bash (probably to vent out our frustrations, which probably is the easiest thing in the world to do) but can’t we just take out some time to focus on the positivities (I’m sure we’ll find many) after all we were born Pakistanis and will die Pakistanis so I say the way to live is “Proud to be a Pakistani”

Here’s what **PAKISTAN **means to me :slight_smile:

P= is for all my “People”, my fellow “Patriotic Pakistanis”
A=is for the “Association” I feel with the language / culture / tradition & regions of Pakistan
K=is what’s for “Keeps”…our dignity/ our pride/our individuality/ our freedom and most of all our faith & trust in God
I=is for the “Identity” this country gives u and me irrespective of where we might be living at this very moment.
S=is for the “Single Shinning Star” in my country’s flag…so pure, so white and so bright
T=is for the” Tremendous” joy it brings me to witness the “Team-work” spirit of my people in face of adversities.
A=is for the “Aspirations” and dreams I have for my country. May it “Achieve, Attain, Advance” with each passing day “Ameen”
N=is for “Never Ending” devotion I pledge to my homeland.
Fellow GUPians, share ur views about freedom, about Pakistan, express what being a Pakistani means to u, ur memories of the Independence Day (if u have any), certain historical details, suggest ways to bring about changes and how we can make positive contributions…but one request if u don’t have anything worthwhile to say it’s better to keep quiet (I realize everyone has a right to their opinion & spamming can be quite addictive) but for once can we successfully keep a thread “PAK” …I hope it’s not asking much. Thanks!

Nice thread.

Unfortunately we ( the young generation) don't realize the value of Pakistan as did our forefathers who gave sacrifices in the form of blood and wealth. We don't know the meaning of freedom of praying in the masjid without any disturbance because we have not yet seen the tough times in our life which actually forced our fore fathers to make the decision of an independent nation.

Still, I feel we have developed ourselves in many ways, by the grace of Allah. We were the first muslim nation to develop a nuclear technology to defend ourselves from our enemies. Also people all over the world give the example of Pakistani muslims as sincere followers of Quran, hadiths and sunnah of the Prophet (saw) in many fields of life.

The only request I have from my muslim brothers and sisters is to start thinking what we can give to our nation rather than what our nation has given us, because only through such thoughts countries like America have become a super power.Blaming our system and leaders would serve no purpose, but setting our practical example would inshAllah make a positive difference if we all make efforts for it. One generation has to give the sacrifices to make life easier and better for the coming generations.

personally i have always been proud of our nation. It’s people are hardworking and talented. Only leadership/politicians r corrupt…if they can be fixed out country can surpass india or china in a matter of 5-10 years and become asian toger :bobo:
However, my proudest moment as a Pakistani was when we became nuclear power:lajawab:
that was just coooooool how we changed the mountain color to white!:cb:

I have to say that every country in the world has its faults. We are no exception. I have lived in USA and Canada, but I will always call Pakistan my home. That is the land where my family has lived for generation. That is the land that has made and evolved my family into what it is now. Without it, I can’t imagine my life…if there was to be a life.

Also, I can’t forget the grisly sacrifices the common people made to get to Pakistan. No one should forget that. No one should forget the sacrifices of the women, men, children. My family escaped the blood bath by a few months. Alhamdullilah, we did. And we made a conscious choice to make Pakistan our home. And for that, I am greatful.

We had some of the greatest leaders. Sure, we aren’t in text books of the world, but nonethless, we had them. We are the country that was formed by the hands of intellectuals, lawyers, women. We have had poets, we have had zameendars and the common people striving for a country. And we have done that.

I can’t forget the time that my family has spent defending my country from the invaders. My family still continues to do that. I am thankful to them, and to the rest of the military. Thank you for protecting my homeland.

Sure, some other of our neighbours have the glitz and the glam. But you know what, our metropolitan cities are cleaner than theirs. Ask any one. It was the same story 10 years ago, and it is the same story today. The life that the common people lead in Pakistan is…truly amazing. It’s undescribable. Our homes, our shops, our parks. It’s beautiful.

We have the history. And we have our present. And Inshallah, we will have the future. I am proud to be a Pakistani. I would not trade my identity, for anything else. :jhanda:

every year this day goes by with normal rituals of celebrations ...........come on guys lets make this time a remerable decion for our lives i.e we will makle our country better , we will be loyal and if need of time requires our life we will not runaway and many which i start writing we cost me hours atleast make one promise each and do celebrate coz we r wat v r becoz of PAKISTAN......mera sohna mulaq.........................

it was nice to read your topic ... wat i have to say here or may be its a request for those pakistanis who put up jhandiyans that ** its very good to place these little cute flags but real patriotism will be there if u please replace them after 14th and put them in a safe place...**

I just wanna say that I was born and raised in America, but Pakistan is my home. I love everything about Parkitan. The culture, our values, my family, the way there’s so much “rakh rakhao” and respect. Maybe I am so attached to Pakistan because I have no brothers and sisters, and whenever I go there I feel so at home. I went this summer as well, just came back last week and now I feel so alone. Over there, even in times of difficulty, everyone is there for each other. Sukh mein bhi aur dukh mein bhi saab aik dusrey ka saath detey hain. Especially when someone is in need, everyone forgets the differences they have and rush to help each other. I know Pakistan has many faults, but come on…we are Pakistani and I dislike people who try to deny that. Every country, even America has MANY faults, sometimes people are just too ignorant to see the ones under the surface. I strongly dislike when people sit in abroad and talk about how corrupt Pakistan is. I always say well u aren’t doing anything to help it. The way we can correct our faults is if we work together and try to dimish those habits from our own homes first, and Insh’Allah slowly but surely the next generations will learn to take care of their country. A lot of people living in Pakistan I think take it for granted, they don’t appreciate their freedom like they should.

Anyway, PAKISTAN ZINDABAD :slight_smile: I’ll post sum pics from my trip later!

assalamo alykum every1, it's so good to see the patriotic feelings we have 4 our homeland Pakistan. as a pardesi living away from Pakistan every choda august is a day i really want to b in Pakistan. i think we should maintain our love 4 our country throught the year not just once in a while especially people in Pakistan as
we can see the trend in Pakistan is going towards the western culture. i think we have a beautiful culture and 2 turn our back from that is not good. even though Pakistan was founded on grounds that it was going to be a islamic republic we can see that lots of people are going completely opposite that, i think people in pakistan need to think carefully and set their priorities. otherwise as we have seen last year what happened in the form of earthquake.will we still not pounder over it, what is Allah saying to us thru his signs.nyways i just wud like to wish everyone happy independece day.
