I know the topic may seem silly, but I honestly used to think that in Hell, we would be able to see and talk to other people. Dont ask me why. Perhaps from watching too many movies I used to think that. Anyway, I’ve read islamic literature on this, and it still didnt change my view, until just recently I came across something that stated very clearly that we would not be able to see others being punished. If anyone can provide other references, would be great.
The topic is not whether you believe Hell to be a literal place or not, its if you do, what is the protocol there in terms of punishment.
Also, all those times I heard guys say to girls, “sweetie I will go to Hell for you just to be there with you”…I guess that goes out the window huh?
And if anyone would like to post jokes, please refer to Jokes section, not here. Thanks.
u shud have good hopes with Allah and hope He bestows His mercy upon u....
and instead of thinking about hell, think about Paradise and things that wud lead u to it....
btw, do u think someone in pain, say from a simple knife cut remains wary of his surroundings????
Whatever knowledge I have gained reading ahadith regarding hell, all it says that the dwellers will be in continuous punishment, there will be only a fraction of "breather" where the s/he will be allowed to recover from the suffering due to punishment but that is only so that the punishment can be RESTARTED, not for him/her to have a minute of peace.
For example if punishment is to burn alive, then only a fraction of time will be provided so the skin grows back to its normal shape and sensitivity.... and the time taken to grow skin will not be similar to what it takes here in this world... just fraction of a second may be.
there are things that are allegorical.. a lot of stuff in the Qur'an is.. it's better to try and understand the concepts of heaven and hell with an open mind and lots of imagination rather than force carnal interpretations to them.
armughal, yes we should indeed have high hopes, but I dont believe Hell was mentioned several times in Qur'an for us not to think about it much.
Changez, yes that is what I have come across in hadith literature as well. However, there are some interesting things I've read regarding those in Heaven seeing those in Hell, etc. It's a bit complicated and I'm sure arguible by people but I wanted more references on that, thus the reason for my post.
Baba G, I agree that the Qur'an mentions relating things in parables, but I take the view that I think majority of muslims take, which is the more literal interpretation of the Qur'an. I know that there are those who may disagree, but I agree to disagree on this matter, with them.
analyze it, thanks for sharing that. Its something to consider.
Any more references would be greatly appreciated on this topic.
Have you all thought about this or it never crossed your mind? Thanks.
