**I want to respond personally to the outrageous press reports about PRISM:
Facebook is not and has never been part of any program to give the US or any other government direct access to our servers. We have never received a blanket request or court order from any government agency asking for information or metadata in bulk, like the one Verizon reportedly received. And if we did, we would fight it aggressively. We hadn’t even heard of PRISM before yesterday.
When governments ask Facebook for data, we review each request carefully to make sure they always follow the correct processes and all applicable laws, and then only provide the information if is required by law. We will continue fighting aggressively to keep your information safe and secure.
We strongly encourage all governments to be much more transparent about all programs aimed at keeping the public safe. It’s the only way to protect everyone’s civil liberties and create the safe and free society we all want over the long term.

What? When governments ask Facebook for data, we review each request carefully?

My own perception and the purpose of creating a social network.
They care more for American's data. Certainly in recent statements they admit that there's little protection for the rights of the rest of the world.
So do you think paklinks sells your data? After all
And no FB does not "sell your data", it would be huge news to my industry if FB did. I am in heavy data driven personalized targeted marketing and work closely with Facebook, aggregated matches and displays without others knowing PII are not only the norm they are industry accepted practices.
As far as the long post and question about govt asking for data, their are laws around subpoenas and legally allowed data access based on need. It's true in every country and while laws may vary and level of access may vary, this really should not be a surprise

Ahaan, didn't know about it, that's how I thought about it always.
And comparing FB with GS? no way
..but you have a point, FB can change the terms of use anytime and do whatever it can legally do with that data, if you read the current agreement you are kinda giving them a lot of freedom today. My point aside from pointing a fact is really irrelevant.
Any site can share your stuff or can be hacked or can change its policies ...thus dont share anything you don't want out there.
I had an interview a few months ago, and as it was winding down, the team leader I was interviewing with asked "so tell me what you like to do in your free time/hobbies etc....aside from gourmet cooking that is..." I chuckled and asked "How do you know about my love for cooking" and he said "your facebook of course...the pics you post are mouthwatering"
I thought I had a completely private/secure timeline/profile...apparently not lol
Have a curated Facebook profile for these reasons keep it looking real. I have one just for that.
My real Facebook profile is totally private, diff name...family nickname and still I don't post anything I don't want an interviewer or my mom to see.
There are personal things and jokes and kidding with friends that if some hiring manager or HR would have an issue with, I would not want to with there anyways.
Call centre recruit fired before first day after boasting interview was like ‘having phone sex’**
A call centre recruit was fired before his first day in the job when he wrote on Facebook that his job interview was like ‘having phone sex’.
John Gibbs, 25, should have been celebrating after landing himself a role with West Sussex county council contact centre in Bognor Regis.
But he was told not to turn up for work after council bosses spotted a raft of posts about immigrants and sex. He wrote: ‘The woman doing my phone interview has the sexiest voice!!! I’m getting a hard on…feels more like phonesex than an interview #Johnny’sHorny.’
After securing the job he boasted: ‘Got a job at West Sussex county council. Look out immigrants – time for a crack down!’
Another read: ‘Beer, fags, money. What else do ya need. Ohhh yeh a brothel …’ He drove the final nail into his fledgling career with: ‘I’ve lost all respect for women and people in general. If I had a gun would be going on a Moat style rampage right now, as it is I’m just going to kill myself with booze.’
The council said the recruitment had been managed by outsourcing company Capita.
A spokesman said: ‘We take immediate action against anyone who fails to behave appropriately, including in their use of social media.’ Mr Gibbs made no comment when contacted.
I agree to every word you said. I have landed my present job via my LinkedIn network. one of my former bosses called me and made me an offer which I could not refuse.
I have landed my last couple of roles due to social networking. It's a channel, how you use it is up to you and it has pluses and minuses on how you use it.
