rise of intolerance has different reasons, mostly related to the states own policies to deal with internal and external threats. For example we don’t hear much about balochistan issue on the mainstream media, but is that hidden from the world? No. Interactions are needed as a first to understand each other.

Can’t disagree with the bold part, but most of times media as a whole (including social media) has to go far to get acknowledgement that it promoted harmony and tolerance. Seems those other factor (in your words internal and external threats) are more powerful than media (which provide interaction among people)
