Some Islamic posts having complete reference where a layman might be doubt about authentication. Those who have full/some/partially knowledge what they do when they receive such messages?

So I opened this thread to discuss advantages and disadvantages.

Re: Social Media - Advantages and Disadvantages

Walaikum Assalam.

I have some mixed feelings about this.

I like how social media allows the average person to learn more about Islam even when it’s not their intent. You could be scrolling through your IG, FB or Twitter feed and see a post or image and it can possibly touch your heart and allow you to seek further knowledge. It allows you to share your learnings with your family and friends with ease. People all across the world can share meaningful messages with each other and it can help propagate the message of Islam more often and to great distances.

However, I have read quranic verses/ hadiths that were not posted in either their entirety or with incorrect wording because of translation or other reasons. This may cause some confusion or divide as you may not be learning the correct information.

Social media is a great inspirational tool. I like Hadith of the Day, Islamic Reminders, etc and do check out their pages/ videos but it’s definitely not my go to to seek Islamic knowledge. It captures the eye of the younger generation.

I think when you receive something via social media you should be critical and check what the source was and cross check the information with your local imam or other texts before you implement them in your life.
