Re: Social anthropology?

Salaam Sabriya786

Can I ask wich subject u had then? What was it about..?

Re: Social anthropology?

It was basically about how people behave in certain social groups...the organization of these people as in their customs, laws, conflict resolution, family structure, gender relations, how they raise their kids, socialization... all that good stuff :)You do studies on it (field studies)... and that can be anywhere from direct observation, interviews, to studying life-histories. Its to establish and understand the reasons for variation and differneces between people.

Re: Social anthropology?

Thnx for answering Sabriya786 :)

Yes I study social anth too. But sometimes it difficult to understand. Have you notes on any books in this subject? Have you read this books:

Weiner, Annette: The Trobianders Of Papua New Guinea
Yanagisako, Sylvia Junko: Producing culture and capital
Green, Linda: Fear as a Way of Life
and
Martinez-Alier, Verena: Marriage, Class and Colour in Nineteenth-Century Cuba

Re: Social anthropology?

social anthropology is essential as a subject since it offers many good opportunities for a travelling spirit to recognize diff cultures and their variation and how it influences humans and their living.

although i’ve studied social antthropology purely, but i’ve studied related courses in gender and world civilisations and contemporary societies for my Master’s.

many universties who offer Masters and PhD degrees in anthropology wil have a sub specialty of social-anthopology.

here are a few links to social anthropology and women:

Re: Social anthropology?

ok, can u read first these first:
Yanagisako monographs:a short summary from internett:
aaanet.org/aes/bkreviews/result_print.cfm?bk_id=3428
or
press.princeton.edu/chapters/s7367.html

I have a task like this: I have to analyze a set of structures of power and authority.

What is power and authority in Yanagisakos book?
