The world class batting lineup is the only one to have pushed the aussies more than close to the brink on quite a few occasions in the last few years. Your team has been consistently performing badly against the aussies for the past few years.
that why it is more painful....to lose from such position of strength is not that graceful, if you ask me.....had Pakistan scored 140 odd runs and forced aussies all the way to 19.5 overs to win the match, I could have digested the notion of graceful defeat but how come a defeat that comes after letting the opposition score 125 runs in last 9 overs (when the opposition had already lost top 4 players) is graceful is beyond my imagination…..yeah we fought throughout but we should have won…forget last 3 overs…it was a bad display throughout last 9 overs…
Yes, we shouldn't have lost from the position that we were in, but we will have to accept the fact that our bowling attack right now is one of the weakeast it has ever been. I am not blaming our bowlers for the defeat, because they did the best that they could. However, we will have to find a couple more genuinely fast bowlers to help Aamir, otherwise it would be difficult for us to defend even the big scores, just like yesterday.
it’s okay Anna. we still have Sania Mirza.
Re: So…
i didnt pray for pakistan. may be that is why we lost ![]()
I know hindsight is a beautiful thing and therefore I won't even talk about playing with one extra bowler or bowling the last over from Razzaq. Seriously I think the team combination was perfect. Our strength was spin and so we inlcuded more spin options as compared to fast. Additionally Ajmal has proved that he can bowl in the death overs and can be effective therefore have no complaints about him as well.
But still something kept bothering me the whole day yesterday. In the last two overs everything happened so quickly not only for Pakistan team but also for fans that we were totally shocked. First I got panicked in the second last over and then left totally stunned in the last over. And if the same thing happened to the Pakistan team then that is where things went wrong. After Aamir's over no one tried to have a team meeting to discuss options like where to bowl to Hussey. They could have met after every ball during that final over. If nothing else it could have broken Hussey momentum. I have seen so many times team taking several minutes to finish the final over in such tense games just to gather thoughts and put some psychological pressure on the opposition who looks to take away the game from you.
I agree with PD that Pakistan team once they are all settled down after this defeat must think of reasons why they were not able to finish or seal this game? May be it wasn't so simple that the game was snatched away from us. May be this mindset will hurt them more when they face Australia again. Because then they will think that even if they give their 110% Australia is still going to defeat them.

A very good point khan...shoaib malik has said the exact same thing in a post-match interview... again, these are the learnings that need to be implemented in future because I am sure we will be in similar situation sooner than later....I think our team was utterly stunned....Poor ajmal...just feel sorry for him....
Re: So......
I still believe that pakistan is a very good team in T20 . Remember that Asif is not in his older form and Gul is missing. Had they been in the team , things would have been much different.
I dont think pakistan is as good in ODI or test matches.
Team management (Mohsin, Waqar and Afridi) wanted Sami and Irfan as replacements for Gul and Arafat. Most of us felt that Irfan and Shahzaib should have been selected instead. Ijaz Butt intervened and sent Rehman and Sami. Sami had an average series but Rahman was one of our top bowlers
Team management did not select Rehman, so should we question Mohsin's abilities as a selector. Ijaz Butt is rightly vilified by everyone for needlessly intervening in selection matters - which is really not his place; that job should be left alone to the chief selector as happens in all countries - but despite all that should we also not give Butt credit for sending Rehman. Why do we think negative and say that someone is a 'parchi' player if he fails to deliver. Was n't the so-called parchi player Salman Butt one of the tournament's big surprises? Most of us felt (myself included) that Butt's game was not suited to T20. Yet he proved us all wrong and was one of our most successful batsmen in World T20
I was overall satisifed with the team's performance in the last 3 matches we played against NZ, SA and Australia. All players proved their worth except for Hafeez and Misbah who clicked only against Australia in the group game.
Easier said than done but if only Pakistan could improve their outcricket or ground fielding - and it is not just about catching but also stopping easy singles and twos - we w'd automatically improve our chances of winning against all teams incl. Australia. Field placement is another area where we could do better. When the opposite team is batting, they seem to find gaps in the field at will esp. on leg side but when we are batting the ball seems to follow the fielders! The bowlers are partly to blame because they don't always bowl according to the field leaking easy runs as a result.
