Be careful about accepting what you are told! The flaw is in the phrase "plus the $2 which the driver got." This should not be added; it should be subtracted, since the $2 the driver got is part of the $27 dollars the three guys spent altogether. If you subtract the $2 from the $27 you get the $25 that goes into the shop till.

Since each guy has now paid $9 for the tv (3 x 9 = 27), and the driver has $2 in his pocket (27 - 2 = 25), the rest of the money is in the shop till.

The trick is to realize that the $2 has to be subtracted from the $27, not added to it.
