If PIA went down from one of the best airlines in the world to where it is now in less than three decades, while at the same time airlines from the Middle East, with immaterial domestic populations in comparison, thrive on the Pakistan market, someone surely messed up. Bad decisions might not necessarily originate from corruption, honest incompetence is worse, since nothing gets done except complying with antiquated procedures and writing fancy reports. So try to recall who, to date, has been held responsible, and what credible action has been taken to prevent a repeat performance…
What’s the latest on PIA?
From being used as a “parking lot for jobs” to a BoD member’s daughter designing new motifs for the PIA fleet’s rear sections …, PIA has been in a major mess.Then NS, in a bit to ‘reorganize’ PIA, appoints a shady character as adviser aviation … and inducts business people in the BoD.
Supreme Court doesn’t like the shady character and he resigns. ](http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/national/31-Jul-2013/mega-crisis-hits-pakistan-international-airlines )PIA Employees did not like him either. The newly appointed members of the Board apparently like him, and resign in protest.
So… what’s next? whither privatization?
Real chor uchakay phir ek bar lootnay ko tiar. Float tender in the international market, privatize 100% under the supervision of Transparency International if you are sincere to Pakistan. NS ki is tarah daka daalnay ki purani aadat hay kyon ke Pakistan in ke baap ki jaagir hay.
