So what about Hong Kong movies?

In my mind Hong Kong movies are probably the best movies out there. The cop crime thrillers are amazing.
A few movies which are much better than the usual Bollycrap
-Infernal Affairs
-Infernal Affairs 2
-Infernal Afairs 3
-Confessions of Pain
-Running on Karma
-Protege
-The Mission
-Chungking Express
-I corrupt all cops
-Election 1 and 2
-Overheard
-Exiled
-Accident

Korean movies like The chaser,A tale of 2 sisters and my sassy girl are also amazing.

Re: So what about Hong Kong movies?

Ringo Lam's City on Fire is awesome.

You mentioned Chungking Express, how about other Wong Kar-Wai films? Like, In the Mood for Love and 2046?

Re: So what about Hong Kong movies?

I LOVE KOREAN movies…their romantic comedies are too funny…their love stories are too sad…and their action stuff is really good…

The best action/comedy I have seen fmr them is “My wife is a Gangster” the first one and second one is the best out of that franchise.

For Romantic comedies : He was too cool and 100 days with Mr. Arrogant :cb:

In the mood for love was a great movie too but I haven't watched 2046 maybe I'll watch it next week.

@Aaliyah
My wife is a gangster was a bakwas movie in my mind and yeah i've heard good reviews about 100 days with mr.arrogant.

Re: So what about Hong Kong movies?

^..oh :bummer: but maybe u watched the bakwas one :cb: :stuck_out_tongue:

u should watch 100 days with Mr. Arrogant…If I knew where to buy korean movies I would.

Re: So what about Hong Kong movies?

Am gonna watch The Chaser right now!

Infernal Affairs trilogy was awesome. So awesome that Americans had to make a lame remake out of it. Make one movie out of 3 and name it “The Departed”. Losers.

Chungking Express was good, but it wasn’t a thriller or crime movie, but rather a Drama/Romance movie.

Have you watched “Fallen Angels”? It’s also by WKW and you can even see some Pakistanis in this movie. LOOOL

I still love me some old Jacky Chan movies, action and comedy at it’s best.

Good choice. If you like this movie and want to watch a similar one, which is also based on a true story, watch “Memories of Murder” ( Starring my favourite actor, Kang-ho Song :biggthumb:)

I love how Koreans try to keep their movies real and don’t serve you a happy ending on a silver plate like Hollywood does. What I also love is the self criticism. Korean movies are so full of symbolism and self criticism about their mistakes in the past and today. This is how you give your people good entertainment, but also something to think about.

Re: So what about Hong Kong movies?

I'm an avid Korean movies/dramas watcher. It's eons above the garbage that Bollywood churns out constantly.

I loved A Bittersweet Life. Am planning on watching Oldboy (finally!)

Couldn't stand the lead female in My Sassy Girl, way too annoying. 100 Days with Mr. Arrogant was all right.

Re: So what about Hong Kong movies?

@Zapatista: I watched the chaser…very good!!! and ur right abt not having happy endings…that is why I hate watching their romantic/dramas…they always make me cry!!! I love their romantic comedies though…hilarious.

I just watched 14 Blades…good action..and there is this very HOT chinese dude who comes after half the movie is done…and ofcoz they have to kill him off :cb: But it was a good movie.

And Korean/Jap horror movies are jts that. HORROR!!! they are good!

So I watched the Memories of a Murder…it was good…but who is the murderer :bummer: did they not reveal it or did i jst miss the whole thing?

You don’t get to know who the murderer is, just like how it is in real life. Most of the time we don’t get to find out, until 20-30 years later, like in some recent confessions by some of the US serial killers from the 60s, 70s, 80s.

Plus this movie is based on real events. It’s about Corea’s first Serial Killer and his case still remains unsolved, which makes this movie even creepier. The last scene of this movie totally gave me goosebumps.

About the Chaser, US is going to make a remake soon. As usual…also as usual was that the person who showed interest in buying off the copyrights is

dun dun dun

Di Caprio that good for nothing SOAB who already ruined Infernal Affairs and a few other recent remakes.

Re: So what about Hong Kong movies?

^:cb:

Oh…I didn’t know it was on real events!!! That is creepy if he is still at large!!!

Don’t call him SOAB!!! He is a good actor!!! anywayssss…if they are making re-makes they better do it right!!

When you watch 2046 be sure to watch it in peace and quiet. It takes a while for all the pieces to fall into place, but its a visual delight all the way through.

The bit in 100 days with Mr.Arrogant when she paints his windscreen and leaves the note ‘master, I painted your windscreen to protect you from the sun’ was hilarious.
