how bad is it to go to a wedding without a gift?
And, is it better to go with something really cheap (either u didnt have money at the time or didnt have time to get something, whatever) or just go empty handed?

Re: So...uh....
Is it bad? I personally did not care whether someone brought something or did not bring something to my wedding, or to any events afterwards. My view is that you are asking people to come share a special day with you, they are taking time out to be there, sometimes taking on expenses of travel and hotel etc.
people may care, I dont think its a big deal personally.
write a cheque if you don't have the money on hand, and if you don't have a cheque, just mail it to the couple later. if you're facing rough times, maybe you can donate money to a charity on their behalf and maybe the charity won't list how much you donated? better to just give even a little money instead of something cheap. I'm sure people would understand that people have to think twice in this economy. you could do a group gift card with 5 or 6 friends that are in the same boat and each person contributes however much they can. I think you can get a visa gift card that works anywhere or you can get a gift card for a department store like macy's. Or get a small but high quality gift like a small box of expensive chocolates (will cost maybe $15)
Or go empty handed, i don't think people notice. please don't give a cheap gift though, it's just not worth it.
Re: So...uh....
I disagree. people should take the presence of the guests as enough of a present.
let me do some very simple math.
if i have to go out of state for a wedding
tickets at @250/person $1000
hotel 2 nights @100/night $200
rental care @40/day $80
parking at airport @15/day @30
so $1300.00 just to get there. and these are pretty conservative numbers.
if someone really is going to have an issue that they did not get a $100 or so gift, then I dont know what to say.
Re: So...uh....
^ exactly.
go empty handed if you have to but don't compensate by bringing a terrible re-gift or similar other gifts. agar dena hai toh properly do, warna don't bother.
