Short summary: A mob of women protested at Columbus Circle for the right to roam topless after the arrest of a woman from the Lower East Side. The city will face a civil rights suit filed by Feeley’s lawyer. But they soon realized that doing such a thing was quite risky as it was hot and then rainy and then they were surrounded by leering men. However the police intervened, preventing any attacks.
Theyh’re not always goign to be surrounded by police officers. I think the fumes from her vegetable oil powered RV are getting to Feeley’s head. She’s protesting against the very people who protected her.
So how is this a fight for your right? Exactly WHAT is the purpose behind roaming arond topless for women? Do these women want to be touched and leered at? It’s quite disgusting really; women are fighting for the right to get an education, for the right to NOT be killed if they get raped, and these semi-educated dimwitted “gypsy” freaks want to run around naked? Sick.
Well then what is this? Civil rights? They're protesting and fighting for something just for the sake of fighting fo rsomething, buncha liberal no-life morons...
Despite how incredibly silly this is, they have the right to voice their protest/demands and subsequently be thrown in jail for breaking the law and not listening to the police despite their warnings.
You think that's bad Lydia. Go to South Beach. pukes
I don't get the whole topless thing...I guess these ladies are leftover remnants from the hippie age...
Who knows. I wish they would concentrate their furor on women going thru horrible times in our own country...like inner city single moms, homeless women, etc.
No, I think they are doing this the wrong way, but I think the point they were attempting lamely to make is that they want the right to be able to and not to be molested…
Yes, the wrong way, and yes, well, no one really want to look at that…
Phatima… i will have you know that not all 40 yr olds are like that
Methinks it’s coz of money. If you do it for money, then ur a whore, whereas if you do it simply for the pleasure of basking in all ur nekkid glory, then that’s okay Anyway, who says strip joints are fine and moral?
CM... ummm, have you noticed they are legal in the states?
And yeah, so what women go around topless... maybe in the tiny little world people occuy that consists of their morality and their NEED to impose that morality on others, it is a major sin, but come on... You don't like it, don't look...
No, I don't approve and no, I wouldn't go topless in public. I hold myself to a certain standard. But I am not going to get all bent out of shape because the woman down the street does so... that is between her and her God in the end...
Never understand how this is such a major issue and things like child abuse and murder are not... priorities people...
Going topless is moral or immoral not for us to judge. It is more of a societal thing where girls where skirts at age 14. Whether this is feminism or not, I don’t know because I thought feminism is about sexuality and rights for women. I guess these women are trying to dismiss the double standards in their own way. I mean its their body they can do whatever they want. Abortion would be another example to why men have to be responsible about that.
BTW, before anyone opens a civil liberties book on me I just wanna say that every civil/social protest is a civil disobedience and people get arested over there too. Thank you..
perhaps I have a different mental image of these people than you guys...Generally in the UK the people making a fuss about wanting to strip off are the kind that noone(in my opinion) would give a second look to or those thet we would PAY money to cover up.
