i would imagine for desi clothes, the new empire waist anarkali's that are out and worn with loose flowing pants would be great, no?
also in western wear, the trend for those knee-length "men's dress shirt inspired" tops paired with stretchy cotton tights (from places like american apparel) would translate really well for preggo wear too, i'm thinking.
i bought a pair of those tights a couple of days ago and didn't want to take them off, they were so comfy and i'm not even expecting!
i know people say that investing in maternity clothes isn't really the best since they're only for 9 months, but imho, 9 months is a looong period of time- i'm totally geared up to spend as much as i need to, to not look boring lol
now i just need to actually get started growing a baby!
^¨ i agree with you... 9 months is a long long time and u feel so fat and ugly that if u start buying sacks instead of good looking clothing, ure gonna be one depressed pregnant woman.
When do you begin to buy maternity clothes?
I feel so ugly wearing sweatpants all the time, however most of my jeans are getting a little tight....but I haven't gained more than 5 lbs since I found out i was pregnant but they are uncomfortable. I'm already a size 12-14, so should I buy maternity or just go up a plus size?
I was all about wanting to look good during pregnancy. Seriously, as you get bigger, if you didn't feel good about yourself, it would be an awfully long time 'till it's over. And like they say, you feel good when you look nice. So, I bought quite a few maternity items at various stages, and I'm so glad I did.
Desi stuff was a problem though. I got a few simple outfits made in various sizes as I grew bigger. I didn't have any fancy clothes though. It was my luck that my bro's wedding happened to fall during my third trimester, so I had major problems. I spent nearly $200 and bought an anarkali dress, which was gorgeous, but because I felt so huge as it is, I felt even bigger wearing it, so it sits in my closet untouched. I got one outfit sent by my khala in a bigger size, and I ended up wearing two of my sister's 'jahez' outfits (after alterations) for the other two days. I did feel horrible throughout the wedding about myself though. (I know I was being emotional and childish.) :D But yeah, saree would've been a good option. I know a few people who had sarees for all fancy occasions during their pregnancy.
GUYS, get the BELLABAND. It makes life sooo much easier. mommy2be, all those pants that are a bit too tight, you just wear them unzipped/unbuttoned, and the band holds everything in place. I've lost weight since I found out, but everything is tight cuz of my expanding tummy. And I don't like to wear things that put pressure on my abdomen when I'm sitting and such, and most pants do.
I get looks from all my phuppos, MIL, mom, mumanis and such, even when I wear a 1-inch heel. Normally I only wear flats, but at formal occasions they just don't look right. My golden sandal has a really high heel, so I'm going to need to get a 1inch one for the upcoming shadi season.
And Ammi just took out my gharara shirt for my cousin's wedding in two weeks, so that's all set. And I have saris ready for more formal stuff. But for dawats and stuff, I'm just going to invest in nice kurtis and such. I think people understand and don't expect you to wear designer stuff -- as long as you look nice. And I agree, I want to look good!
Is a chiffon sari too scandalous during your pregnancy? Because I love them.
Chiffon is not scandalous, Sahar… heck you’re the one carrying another human inside you, you should where what you bloody well want to wear
Sara, heels are discouraged for pregnant women, as inevitably your feet will swell so heels may be uncomfortable and also they may cause back pain (moreso than what you will already be experiencing!)
Having said that, i still wore heels to formal functions when i was heavily pregnant with my last 2 pregnancies… but now i can’t even wear closed shoes, sandals etc nevermind any sort of heel! It’s whatever you feel comfortable in; the most important thing is to listen to your body
Okay, I'm totally going to wear my chiffon saris whenever possible. They're the easiest for me to carry. And so pretty. I thought they might be scandalous because you could see a bit of my tummy through the fabric, but whatevs. My blouses are pretty long, and I don't wear my petticoat low.
And I wore heels a couple times very early in my pregnancy to work, and even then I was completely exhausted. The back pain is pretty bad these days, so I don't even want to wear them. I'm also a big klutz, so I think there is a greater chance of me toppling over and endangering the baby. But I'll still wear at leas small heels to formal events. I can't wear flats with my ghararas and saris!
I purchased a few tops that were not even maternity clothes, they were just larger than a normal size I would wear. Don't waste too much money on mat clothes. You grow out of them way too fast. Towards the end, I was STILL GROWING, so nothing even fit me. There was one point where I could not stand having anything touch my stomach at all ....
My mother had some suits that she made out of sarees that they sewed too large in Pakistan, so I just wore those pretty much throughout. I did buy some maternity clothes, but only 2 pairs of pants and maybe 4 tops.
I wore a saree to a wedding and just styled it different so that the paloo hung over the front instead of the back, sort of like Gujrati style. But I never went out and purchased a new saree. I just worked with whatever I already had.
i didnt do much buying. altered a few suits i had, and wore the ones i did buy till death, i honestly got SICK of the clothes i was wearing, and as i had stopped studying and wasn't going out i mostly wore salwaar kameez cos they are more loose.
had a wedding to go to when i was 7/8 months and had 2 outfits made for it that were loose, one of which i resized after for another wedding.
