General Musharraf imposed martial law and fired the judges on the basis that it couldnt focus on the fight against terrorism with the judiciary “distracting” them.
Since the emergency we have seen daily protests, political and from the lawyers. Most of the law enforcement officials are busy standing around while Pakistanies protest against the dictator. Obviously it seems that the fight against terrorism is massively distracted by the emergency, with the arrests/searches having to be focused on politicians/lawyers/human rights activists instead of the vaguely bearded looking people they would be focusing on without such distractions.
Is it incumbent upon Musharraf, if he wasnt merely offering lame excuses to his Western masters, to reverse the emergency, since clearly the foremost thing on his mind is that the fight against terrorism not be distracted even in the slightest?
Hey look on the bright side, the suicide bombings have halted, so what if Taliban flags are going up on Swat and opium contnues to flow from pak-afghan border.
Maybe these lawyers and oppistion had something to do with it ?
khaak halted, they're asking PPP to call off its rally because 3 suicide bombers have come into the city.
It never occurs to the suicide bombers to attack the almost daily rallies pml(Q) holds. but no, anti-govt rallies are certainly something the taleban wouldnt want.
i guess they could have caught those 3 if they werent so busy running after imran khan
we havnt had one since the emergency was enforced, so ill give the new setup some benefit of the doub. lets see if there is another explosion in BB's next rally
whoever it is responsible for catching the suicide bombers, if there is anyone actually working on that.
as far as no suicide bombings, thats pretty much the same rationale Bush and co. give. no more 9/11s. its specious reasoning, given that no suicide bombers have been apprehended, and 3 supposed suicide bombers are at large waiting for the rally according to the govt. if those 3 arent caught, would you agree that thats pretty much the same thing as far as the law enforcer's performance, as 3 actual suicide bombings happening?
its been three days since the emergency, not 3 months. too early to hand out your gold stars, and its too early to say the govt has failed even if another bombing happens. but it is clear where all the police personnel are deployed, where all those IG's who were supposedly handicapped against terrorism, are now spending their time.
didnt they find some blown away heads during the last suicide bombing when BB landed? they did some DNA match and compared it against the national databsed and connected them to baitullah masood or whatever the dude's name is
maybe true, im not debating whether or not these suicide bombers are real or whether they have to do with baitullah mashood.
what i want to talk about is the rationale for the emergency. clearly the focus of the police and rangers, who were supposed to be distracted by the Judiciary against terrorism, is now political and legal activists. Of all the arrests made, none of them have been publicized by the govt as behind extremism/terrorism. The police you see deployed on your tv screens inside big cities is NOT catching bearded dudes.
This situation will not blow over anytime soon. Political and legal activism will continue, and they will keep trying to suppress it with police. In which case its more of a distraction for the govt to keep this emergency going.
If they really ever cared about terrorism and werent just using it as a convenient excuse, they should focus on terrorism and end this emergency. But it was never about the terrorists was it.
right, i said in another thread that you cant expect a dictator who's only way of holding onto power and retaining western support is fighting terrorism to really want terrorism to end. soon as terrorism ends, so does his entire western support system. but thats a seperate topic.
i wanted pro-Musharraf people to explain how they see the post emergency events not destroying all the rationalizations offered
