so do u feel safe in the uk?

After the woolwich killing who feels safe in their neighborhoods? My dad warned about the current situation years ago. That we live in a trigger-happy climate.

Edl have almost quadrupled their members there are Muslims being attacked and one of my mosque classeswas cancelled due to MAYBE edl showing their faces around there.

So we Muslims are we still safe in the UK? Isn’t islamophobia getting worse.

Should people be packing their bags and leaving

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

don't over-react...don't panic...things will calm down in a few days...relax and stay put...UK is not like a third world country...there rule of law prevails. :)

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

Muslims are safer in UK than they are in Pakistan.

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

Look at how his friend came on tv and refused to condemn what happened to the soldier. Muslims are making wrong use of the freedom and rule of law that protects them. If this goes on like that then it will definitely lead to something like victimization of jews in WW2.

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

His friend is an individual. He doesn't represent muslims. Neither does the guy who murdered.

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

Yes. However people are definitely hardening their attitudes towards Muslims after this beheading. I just hope that nothing like this happens again.

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

beheading? evidence to suggest he was indeed beheaded, because theres no such photo evidence as yet.

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

Oh well I guess it's okay then? As long as he was only hacked to bits and not actually beheaded. I guess those eyewitness reports must have lied.

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

Islamaphobia is indeed getting worse. And I can half understand it.
I would probably lack an understanding of it too, if i wasnt from a muslim background myself.

The fact is that normal, liberal , forward thinking, spiritual, peace loving, democratic, muslims are the only people who can turn this situation around. The more they are heard speaking out against this kind of extremist, fundamentalist evil activity - the more the world will hear us.

And the more we can challenge the concepts which are taught by stupid dumb muslim clerics who have no interest in anything peaceful.

I actually agree that they should be gagged and prevented from spreading their immoral preachings.

Only muslims can make the difference. If we dont speak up the situation will get worse and worse

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

I think in a way the UK government has been complicit in matters. If some Gora spouts hatred on a tube train she is locked away for inciting hate crimes. If Abu hamza advocates murdering all kuffar in finsbury park , it is called freedom of speech.

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

Why muslims scared you didn't do anything wrong it was not the muslims who sent their armies to bomb and destroy iraq it was not the muslims who supported dictators in middle east to torture and kill thousands.

What did muslims do wrong? The british government chose to follow a disgusting and hypocritical foreign policy and they expect no problems in return what idiots they put their nation and peoples lives at risk.

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

There is no real evidence he was hacked to bits either

Umm..what?!? So then what happened? Nothing? The blood stained, cleaver wielding assailant who was calmly roaming the street asking people to video tape him did what then?

And the witnesses who saw the body?

And the forensic evidence?

All here say and conspiracy theories?

http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/22/world/europe/uk-london-attack/index.html?c=&page=2

A witness, who identified himself only as James, told London’s LBC 97.3 radio station that he saw two men standing by the victim, who was on the ground in the British capital’s Woolwich neighborhood.

At first James thought they were trying to help the man. But then he saw two meat cleavers, like a butcher would have.

“They were hacking at this poor guy, literally,” he told the radio station, as if they were trying to remove his organs.

“These two guys were crazed. They were just not there. They were just animals.”

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

Lot of incidents of Muslim women harassed and incidents against mosques.

A lot of women I know esp from my family do not feel safe going out.

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

I don't think that we have an equivalent and especially popular one at that in the form of EDL / BNP in US & Canada. Call it the British's lazy attitude of not caring or perhaps caring too much that they allowed ghettonization and people not even knowing English (classes in their own language) that could have contributed to the mess. A lot of times it is the converts or the second / third gen people who are doing this sort of crap. Some analysts have analyzed it to the emotional politics that goes on in the muslim communities (desis take the cake on bs'ing hence the popularity of talk shows in Pakistan), but unlike their parents who have lived bad or horrible conditions be it in Syria, Iraq, Egypt where you can be disappeared and tortured, the native born muslims don't "get it" that how better off they are compared to their parents. Saudi funding of mosques, never any universities, never help matters either !

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

Hijab wearing or not? I'm worried too

Re: so do u feel safe in the uk?

It was a disgusting act of murder. The media is worsening the situation by calling it terrorism when it wasn't.

Furthermore, we Muslims need to also acknowledge that we have a problem within our societies and we need to unite and kick this disease out.

To answer the question, yes it has worsened the situation and the people who are getting hurt are ordinary good to do Muslims. People like Anjum Choudhary don't help our cause either.

There was a EDL demonstration in Manchester yesterday near central which naturally I advised in particularly women to stay clear.

As said by others I think the media is fuelling the fire with tensions. I personally haven't felt or noticed any tension except the shock which has been shared pretty much all round by the general public. The majority of British people regardless of ethnicity are, in my opinion, open minded and not prejudice or racist. I do think this media frenzy surrounding and labelling it an act of terrorism and highlighting the religious background of the individuals, rather than a horrific event by two individuals, has been the most damaging and spurring racial tensions. The racist EDL types that are finding reason to act senseless are using this as an excuse for their behaviour and those few that are closet racists are finding their voices on the back of the media's reporting. Personally I felt more of an atmosphere with the reporting of Operation Bullfinch which led to arrests of many asians in the county I'm in and is just reaching the end of trial now.

From how it sounds in other areas of the UK though it is mirroring that of tensions post the 7/7 bombings which thankfully over time just died down. It is mainly the few idiots the media prefer to latch on to thus further pushing this air of distrust between people. I do hope everyone stays safe. I guess if everyome just uses a bit of common sense and avoids what could be dodgy areas if they feel safer then soon enough things will be better again and the racists will disperse and find something else to occupy their small minds.

Embrace: Ansar with EDL chief Robinson

As thousands of English Defence League and anti-fascist protestors took to a city’s streets yesterday, a remarkable scene unfolded away from the crowds in a back lane.

Onlookers feared the worst as a row flared between EDL chief Tommy Robinson and Muslim political commentator Mohammed Ansar.

But within moments the pair stunned watchers… by smiling and embracing each other.

“It’s something I never thought I’d see,” said a man who witnessed the bizarre scene in a side street just before the EDL and anti-fascist Newcastle Unites rallies started on Tyneside.

“These two having a *debate in a back lane while *thousands were demonstrating – and then *cuddling and embracing.”
And the truce seemed to spread as the demos in the wake of Woolwich went peacefully even though up to 2,000 people took part in the EDLevent and nearly 400 in the Newcastle Unites rally.
Chief Supt Gary Calvert said: “I am pleased this passed off without *major incident. Disruption was kept to a minimum. There were a number of arrests mainly to do with alcohol or to prevent public order offences – but most took place before the protests started and most of those taking part were well behaved.”

There has been a huge increase in anti-Muslim incidents since Lee Rigby’s murder, an inter-faith charity has revealed.
A number of people have been arrested after alleged offensive comments on social media websites and four people have been charged by police.

Faith Matters, which runs a *helpline, said they had received more than 150 calls since the attack.
Fiyaz Mughal, director of Faith Matters, told the BBC: “What’s *really concerning is the spread of these incidents. They’re coming in from right across the country.”
