Snubbed, Pakistan warns Obama it can review ties

So Obama is not buying into Pakistan being a “partner” and “victim” in the war on terror ? What options does Pakistan have ? Will they stop “supporting” the US war on terror ? And does that mean the US will bypass Pak and hit terrorist bases directly ??

Snubbed, Pakistan warns Obama it can review ties

Pakistan has told America it has the choice of “reviewing its options” after President Barack Obama warned aid to the country would depend on its cooperation in the war on terror.

“Pakistan hopes that Obama will be more patient while dealing with Pakistan. We will review all options, if Obama does not adopt a positive policy towards us,” Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Hussain Huqqani told Geo TV in Islamabad.

According to the envoy, “Bush was more inclined to Pakistan. Obama should hear us out. He must pay attention to other factors in the region.”

Speaking about Pakistan’s role in the war against terror, Huqqani said that Pakistan was an ally of the US and participating in the war against terror was in its own interest.

The envoy’s comments came hours after Obama unveiled his policy agenda.

The new Obama administration has told Pakistan that it is accountable for the “security in the border region with Afghanistan” and the financial aid it receives would depend upon its performance in the fight against terrorism.

“(President Barack) Obama and (Vice President Joe) Biden will increase non-military aid to Pakistan and hold them accountable for security in the border region with Afghanistan,” the White House said in its foreign policy agenda document released after Obama took over as President on Tuesday.

Biden, as the chairperson of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had introduced legislation in the US Senate listing out terms of financial aid to Pakistan.

Co-authored jointly by the Republican Senator, Richard Lugar, the legislation proposes to triple non-military aid to Pakistan in the next five years.

The legislation authorises $7.5 billion over five years in aid that can be used for development purposes, such as building schools, roads and clinics.

The bill also calls for greater accountability on security assistance, to improve Pakistani counter-terrorism capabilities and ensure more effective efforts against the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

The foreign policy agenda of the Obama administration on Pakistan is in tune with the well-known policies of Biden, which was also echoed by the Secretary of State-designate, Hillary Clinton during her nomination hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee early this month.

As the key points of the Obama’s foreign policy agenda revealed yesterday indicated, the new administration is expected to follow the key elements of Biden-Lugar proposals introduced last year.

In lieu of $1.5 billion of non-military aid to Pakistan, Islamabad would be required to making concerted efforts to prevent al-Qaeda and associated terrorist groups from operating in its territory and make concerted efforts to prevent the Taliban from using its territory as a sanctuary to launch attacks within Afghanistan.

Islamabad would also need to ensure that it does not materially interfere in the political or judicial processes of the country, the legislation says.

Re: Snubbed, Pakistan warns Obama it can review ties

If knows little bit of history 9/11 and after then would know how we were force into it.
IF has read afghan war then would know how we saved out butt from russia.

So if is not and like bush he would act like it.

Man!!

That's low.

Even for you.

So an Indian post a bit of news, and so-called Pakistanis should immediately get peppers in the you know where?

Calm down. This is just game of love where each party is going to size each other.

Obama wants to send more troops in Afghanistan, and Pakistan is the only route available for large scale supplies to Afghanistan.

And guess what? Pakistan will provide the route, and USA will pay the money. That's how it works out among "adults".

Obama will be following the "advice" of US military just like any good "new kid on the block" will do. So no problems here.

Re: Snubbed, Pakistan warns Obama it can review ties

"Pakistan hopes that Obama will be more patient while dealing with Pakistan. **We will review all options, if Obama does not adopt a positive policy towards us," Pakistan's ambassador to the US Hussain Huqqani told Geo TV in Islamabad.

Obviously its more than just "sizing each other up", otherwise why is the Pak envoy getting all worked up about Obama's "warning" ?

even a like you could understand either its money or bunker buster.
Not much options.

are you out of you mind ?????????????????????
patient ????? those put us into this mess. Don't u know that ????

"Patient" is a word used by the Pak ambassador to the US, and I had pasted a quote from him. Don't take out your frustration on me !!

Re: Snubbed, Pakistan warns Obama it can review ties

^That translate into "please don't start killing us just yet"

I guess we differ on the severity attached to "sizing each other". And that's OK.

Before we go on "punch monking" (attacking personally) each other, we have to realize the context of the quoted material in the original post.

A. The source is an Indian newspaper, and as part of any Indian nationalist (like you PU), they have to put a little spin, a tease, a chutki on the news.

B. Haqqani is addressing Geo. Like many dimwit TV anchors in Pak, this guy probably is a closet Islmaist and hence trying to extract as much "anti-American" statement as he could from the His highness.

Whereas in my earlier post provided a very simple aspect to all this jugat bazi, that the reality of supply route to Afghanistan is through Pakistan. This is regardless of the fact that NATO is is ruling Kabul or Ustad Daman sits in the Kabuli Kassel.

p.s. On a different note, India should learn a very important lesson from the Afghan fiasco. That you never encourage or even sit back while there is an active anarchy going on in your neighbor's house.

Many Indians forget that Pakistan has provided the longest running barrier against Western-invasions to India since the time of Mouriyas. This is an awesome accomplishment even if Pakistanis don't realize.

Indian Punjab has basked in peace while all this turmoil is wrecking heavoc on the other side of its borders. And Indian army didn't need to fire a single bullet. So everyone who has an iota of love for Punjab would give at least a tiny bit of Thank You to Pakistan.

I absolutely agree with you that

True. Except that there was no Pakistan or Pakistanis back then. It was all India

Thats where I diasgree with you. Whats happening in Pakistan is religious (Islamic) terrorism. Indian Punjab is predominatly Sikh & Hindu, so Islamic terrorism is not very likely there. Contrast that with Kashmir, where regular terrorist infiltration from Pakistan is taking place. The main reason is that terrorists find local (Muslim) support in Kashmir and can blend in easily.

Dude wake the hell up,
1- india created mess in srilanka, they actually killed rajiv gandi.
2-India created a mess in srilanka to havedumb pakistan trapped ther(Good move no over head)
3-India is involved in balocishtan(un likely to suffer because of it)
4-India is making a bit to many embassy in afghanistan to get back at pakisan

Thanks bud.

Yes. By Indians, I meant to say people of "modern day India". Apart from minor incidents, whole sale invasions from the West have not occurred during 60+ years of Pakistan even when Afghanistan was up in flames for most of these years.

Remember the dynamics of Afghan invasions were based on anarchy in Afghanistan. When one Khan got his men raped and butchered by another Khan, then the surviving Khans got their swords and ended up in paniput.

Even though whole bunch of Khans have raped and killed other khans in Afghanistan, India has remained safe. While Pakistan has suffered from the invasion of surviving khans who showed up in FATA and Swat and then started raping and pillaging Waziris and Swatis.

This is due to the role of Pakistan who acts as a great wall of China against the invasions into Panipat and sonipat.

Believe you me, if Pakistan breaks down, it won't take more than 20 years for the Afghan raping and pillaging to reach panipat again.

Remember there were lot less Muslims in India and a lot more Hindus back when Afghan hoards reached Panipat. It perhaps will be easier this time around.

So just come out of Kashmir centric thinking for brief moment and appreciate the role of Pakistan in "defending India" from Western invasions.

Remember how Indians were jumpig me-me-me in offering bases to USA back in 2001? You think USA bases bring money and "lovey dovey" from the USA only?

You also get the payback from the tribals too and your army and law enforcement agencies suffer as well.

Alas the history repeats itself and we seldom learn from it.

Surely that is true to an extent. However deep down, Islamist terror of today is in reality Afghan/tribal terror that has been going on since the time Mouriya empire fell.

Well for a minute let me assue what you say is correct ... so basically Pakistan has to protect it's "BORDERS" right NOW ... India will have to wait for 20 years to protect it's backside :D

Well i can only wish Pakistan all the best and hope they are able to save themselves !!!!!!

So shall we come back to Obama and Pakistan !!!! Do you really belive that Obama is going to soft on Afghanistan?

Re: Snubbed, Pakistan warns Obama it can review ties

[note]

Guys please watch the language[/note]

There is no soft/hard thingy when it comes to the control of tribals of S. Afghanistan and the ones in FATA.

You need to provide resources (men and machines) and support those resources politically.

If Obama is successful (and I hope he is), he will provide more resources to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Then inshaAllah the ruthless Kuffar will be defeated.

The whole world sincerely hopes that too........ though there has been some reluctance shows by the "leadership" in Pakistan !!!!! Let us hope the connection of "generous" aid to action against the terrorist will firm up the resolve of "leadership" in Pakistan to act against them !!!!

Thanks for the good thoughts. Indians should remember us in their prayers as I know a lot of them are very religious.

As far as "generous" aid is concerned, the matter is clear that TRAID and not AID will save the region from the chaos that may descend on us like in the past. Indian companies say hello I am Mike, what is your credit number. Pakistani army says hello I am hawildar Chaudhri, what is your credit card number.

Not much difference shall I say.

B .... it is fine to joke about the capabilites of Indian companies .... but if you want to belive that all the development is limited to that, then i have no answer to your ignorance .....

Last time also you mentioned about this aid and trade ...... to put it simply .... the difference is between giving a fish and teaching to fish ... Pakistan should strive for the latter ... though it seems you dont find much of a difference in them !!!!!!

Who can joke about serious business? Why would you even think like that?

Do you mean by "fish" the $$$ income?

If so, then remember one thing. Military contractors earn 100 times more than civilian contractors. But money is not the sole criteria. It is what you specialize in. That makes us all important in different specializations. Many young boys in India want to be a techie and they work hard on it and become one. Many young boys in Pakistan dream of becoming a military officer and they work hard on it and become one.

A contract is a contract. Both military and civilian contracts have ups and downs too. some times the top management messes up, resulting in bad bad very bad reputation. Just see what happened to Satyam and in such short time of Indian contracting history.

Pak army has been contracting for 60+ years and yes there are few miscommunications and few issues with "contract management". BTW Pak army's contracting is just like armies contracted out by UK, Australia, Canada, and UK. The mode of payment may be different but the basic concept is always give and take.

Still overall the success rate and contract end results are pretty darn good. Soviet union has been kicked out of South Asia and Indians should also be thankful for that.

And soon the Taliban kuffar will be defeated too. This is just like many Indians will get contract for call centers and they surely will fulfill the contractual obligations regardless of what Satyam does or doesn't.
