it’s the amount everyone pays for all that food you eat :D. By everyone, I mean the head of all the families visiting. Some people (esp in villages or small cities) even write the amout for each family. This “covers” all the expenses the person spent on his OWN wedding

I did see the elders giving more money but I THOUGHT that it’s because they want to be generous

It's not about the elders or who gives more, it's like everyone HAS to give and they're rather doin some kinda business by feeding others and trying to get the money back than spending it out of their own pocket.

besides, we humans should consider what people around us really feel comfortable with. i mean if someone tells me they are hurt, i always delete my post. (no matter what).
