Police in the United States have confirmed that a thirteen year old boy is the latest victim of a sniper who has terrorised the north west and north eastern suburbs of Washington D.C. for the past five days.
The boy, in a critical condition, was gunned down after being dropped at school.
Schools in the greater Washington region have been locked down but police have few leads on the sniper who seems to be saying ‘catch me if you can’.
At 8:09 this morning, a shot rang out and a thirteen year old boy slumped forward.
The Boy’s aunt who had just dropped him off at school ran back scooped him up and raced him to a local surgery.
The sniper’s killing spree, which began last Wednesday night, hasn’t discriminated between male female, black or white.
With tears in his eyes, an emotional Police Chief Charles Moose said this was the first time a child had been targeted.
Doctor Martin Eichelberger who operated on the 13-year-old victim says surgeons made a special effort to retrieve some of the bullet for forensic examination. Shortly after the bullet fragments were handed over, police scientists confirmed that the shooting was the work of the sniper.
Six people were killed last week and another seriously injured by the suburban sniper moving throughout the Washington region.
