I want smoky eye so bad!!!
But I can’t afford to get mac expensive shadows
I am a student and broke. ![]()
Please tell me what other shadows can I use to have a smoky eye? and what brushes? Tell me a brand thats available in drugstore etc if possible..
Otherwise I’ll just look at the pictures and admire them with a sigh..
Re: Smoky eye ~ Eyeshadows?
If you cant get the mac ones then just invest in only one really good black (the intensity of pigments is really important and use the others that are drugstore brands.
Use the regular spongy things that come with the eyeshadows and use one small kinda wide brush on top to blend everything.
I use Fierce eye shadow by Victoria Secrets. I think it costs abt 12 dollars.
The bone colored eyeshadow just make sure it is shimmery to use on under the brow bone. rest you dont need a lot of others.
Re: Smoky eye ~ Eyeshadows?
Just use products from CVS or Walgreens. You can find all the colors and brushes you need from there.
I am a big advocate for good products - quality over quantity but seriously, $74 for a makeup brush? I don’t think so.
If you’re serious about makeup, go to a craft store and buy paint brushes. They’re the same thing. Made with either human or goat hair, just as soft as MAC brushes and less than half the price. Here’s a link to show you how to buy brushes comparable to MAC ones.
As for pigments, shadows, colors, there are countless brands out there that are great. They’re not harmful for your skin and give a lovely overall finish. I’m not talking about the $2 tubs though… God knows what they put in that stuff but others like revlon, cover girl, maybelline etc aren’t $22 a pigment like MAC, yet they’re very comparable, respectable brands. It’s not like women died of skin cancer before MAC was invented.
Like I said, over all finish is lovely and it’s not like you’re going to a party every night under a camera. You’re a young college student, have fun with your colors, makeup and look fresh and lovely while keeping your wallet warm…!

Re: Smoky eye ~ Eyeshadows?
no need to buy super expensive make up any good and affordable brand will do just fine :)
or u can simply do wat i do when im in a hurry and dont have 2 hours to put my make up on:D
i simply take my black eyeliner put it on my upper eyelid and then blend it so that it covers the whole eyelid like black eyeshadow and do the same on lower eyelid
then simply line ur upper and lower eyelid like u normally do and put mascara on and a lil bit of highlighter under the brow bone and viola instant smokey eyes :D
and it stays on longer than powder eyes shadow:D
and if ur skin is oily then it will smudge so u better put face powder b4 doing it
Re: Smoky eye ~ Eyeshadows?
For cheaper drug store eyeshadows, go with the Loreal Hip line. It's very pigmented compared to most other drug store products, and priced reasonably.
Covergirl has come out with a new eyeshadow line that looks more pigmented, but I've yet to see it in action.
If you're willing to spend 15-20 dollars per eyeshadow, go for Urban Decay (at Sephora), or MAC eyeshadows. While I generally stay away from MAC in my professional use, some of their eyeshadows are still pretty good.
Like Humeira said, some of those cheap-o palettes from China are good. If you ebay an eyeshadow palette they'll all look similar, and have similar prices, and they aren't bad at all! I've used them before and I liked some of the quality. However, I can't say what the ingredients are, so I can't suggest you buy them (China is notorious for the quantity of lead in it's products).
Re: Smoky eye ~ Eyeshadows?
loreal/annabelle/cover girl- all those brands makes great eyeshadows, you should definitely check them out. i just did a smoky eye with navy blue shadow- i much prefer navy blue, chocolate brown, dark green, grey, and plum smoky eyes over black which can look a bit harsh on me.
which can look a bit harsh on me.
It's not black's fault you're a cute, little munchkin y'know.
Invest in L'oreal's "eye-smoker" and u won't need anything else =)
