no one can be sure if the results are always gonna be fine...so better be safe than sorry....
its not that big of a deal and its not a painful procedure....
its just a screening test like so many others...which can detect sth earlier with better chances for treatment and better outcomes that way....
but its a personal choice...:)
yep and i've choosen not to....few years back i thought it's a law that you have to have these tests, silly me.
If a girl is a virgin that means she hasn’t had sex. If you go to the gynecologist you are still a virgin unless you are having sex with him!
The reason I can see many paki parents not wanting their virgin/unmarried daughters going there is because the pap smear and pelvic exams may break the hymen. It isn’t necessary that it will break the hymen. But the hymen can break from other things instead of vaginal intercourse. Therefore, parents shouldn’t be concerned of a girl’s hymen breaking as a result of some medical exams specially when it’s her health they should be concerned with.
even thinking abt that time i had to go makes me want 2 be sick:( i really want 2 get another 1 done, because ive read that there is still a risk of cancer if ure sexually active or not :(
the nurse said to me that i was finding it very painful becos i have never been sexually active, but i just think its me, wht puzzles me is that i can get a full brazilian wax dun, i find it sore but i can tolerate, but i just cudnt take that test :(
I know ot's for other infections and stuff also....but if i get the infection i'd know it with or without the smear test being done.
If you get an infection yes most of the times you will know right away. Many of the times you won't. Sure, if you wanna wait till the last minute to find out something is wrong with your body, then by all means... it's your choice.
But just to make you aware, I have a friend who woke up in the middle night, she lives alone, went to the bathroom to urinate. She came back to bed, then after a few minutes had to go again to pee. this time when she went she jsut sat on the toilet and every few minutes she kept having to pee. After a little while blood started coming out. She rushed to the ER and found out she had a bladder infection. Now if you go to the gyno, they do urine analysis which can easily catch urinary tract and bladder infections. Also, these infections can occur anytime and if not taken properly can damage your kidneys.
So ofcourse the choice is yours. Thousands of women in the past and still today do not have the means to go to a doctor. But if you can catch some virus or disease in the earliest of stages then why not? specially if you have kids...

sumorani, I like the way u think on this topic, good answer!
of course the choice is everyones own, they(we) have to live with the consequences, I take would rather take the uncomfort for a few seconds, if it will tell me about early stage of cancer or other sicknesses, than having to know that nothing can be done as its too late.

No! No no. She's doing great mA. But she was scared out of her mind. And a bladder infection is quite common. There are many different kinds and some people get symptoms over a period of time and some people just feel the pain suddenly without any warning.
I can understand ur hesitation though since uve had an awful experience. I would still encourage u to go. Hopefully u can find someone better.
btw, for those types of infections usually u just take a course of antibiotics for a few days and it goes away but if not treated probably, can damage ur kidneys.
