Are you a regular at it? how often do you get yourself tested ?

If a girl isnt married yet should she still have smear tests done ?

They are recommended yearly after a woman becomes sexually active,hence for Muslim women they wont be done before they are married.
I have been regular for the last few years now.And by regular I mean,one done about every 1.5 to 2 years.Yeah,I just keep rescheduling the annual appointment.I HATE it...!!

Thanks so much for sharing the info Chipsie ... waise i was thinking the other day that some muslim ladies who turn 30 or 32 and are single .. that age they definitely recommend smear test .. if they dont get themselves tested the health risk remains for them , hai na?

^ Stop dramaybazing, they swab you with a long cotton bud shaped thingy they don't rip your uterus out.

I've had it done twice. It isn't painful but it is pretty uncomfortable. Good news is that the worst will be over in less than 30 sec.

I think it depends largely on the person doing it .. i remember when i got it done the first time , the lady attempted it with care and didnt hurt much .. but the second time i got it done , the woman was in a bad mood or something .. coz it literally felt like she was about to pull my kidneys out !

Its really important that us ladies get it done once every two years ..

This very test and the pain associated with it has honest-to-God made me reconsider whether I ever want to have kids. If this is ‘discomfort’ then man oh man I don’t think I can do the childbirth thing.

I go every year very begrudgingly, but my last one came out abnormal so yippeee now I have to go every 6 months :rolleyes:

One time, the nurse had to hold me down as my dr did it and i was BAWLING, seriously crying. They looked at me as if I had six heads and my friend who was in the waiting area said she could hear me and others were asking each other if women give birth here :blush:

It’s so hard being a woman!!! no fair

whoaaaa that is a messed up test, as a guy whose been STD tested, the process was very easy and private.

Doctor pricked my arm for blood test, saliva sample which I swabbed my self, and had to pee in a jug and give it to the doc, but I guess us guys have a prostate exam but that’s not needed until your at least 40.

I initially thought the smear test was what they did in The Simpsons to test if a food was fatty enough :woho: ,

Easier said than done. i aint dramaybazing, it mainly depends on the nurse/doc doing it n person getting it done and their pain treshold. if not handled gently, it can rly feel as if ur insides will get ripped out. ouch

If it is the smear test for cervical screening, in the UK it is done routinely every 3 years for those over 25 years of age in England, and over 20 years of age in Wales and Scotland. If an abnormality is found, it is done more often as in the case of RainbowFluff.

For an unmarried muslim woman (basically a virgin) there is no need to have a smear test for cervical cancer, as the screening is looking for changes in the cervix caused by a virus (HPV) which is only transmitted by sexual/intimate contact, therefore they are not at risk.

^^ It is sad that SO many women have had such a horrific experience. Reading those comments made me thank my stars that my doc was patient enough to explain the procedure to me before doing the test. She even showed me the speculum and how it works, and let me feel the pap smear brushes (they look like they are bristly and sharp, but they're actually very soft) so that my mind was at ease.
All I can say is choose your doctor wisely. Look up their reviews before you go for the test, take recommendations from friends. Also educate yourself about what to expect - there are videos on youtube that show the test with all the details.
Another thing, if you're scared, tell the doc or nurse that. They will spend an extra 5 mins with you to make you more comfortable.

I really wonder how effective this screening is for cervical/uterus cancer. My friend's aunt had stage 4 cervical cancer but the smear test said she was normal. She did the test 3 times at 2 different medical offices, plus the hospital, and all the results said she was fine. Only with a CT scan did they get the real results.

She had all the symptoms for cervical cancer and was diagnosed in the past. She was in remission but it came back. Unfortunately, this test proved useless, but the doctors knew her history, recognized the signs and got her diagnosed with the CT scan.

Really makes you think how efficient this screening is for cancer.

With regards to my own experience, I decided to go to my family doctor, who knows what I had gone through. The doctor made sure to talk to me and explain exactly what was happening. The doctor also used the minature, child's version of the device rather than the one designed for adults. They will do that for you if you ask. It makes it a lot easier.
