Slow cooker recipes

I want to make so many things in my slow cooker, but need some tips.

Anyone made chili, haleem, stews, anything, in a slow cooker? Please share.

Re: Slow cooker recipes

In desperate times ... I've made chili, stew and chicken curry (using a jarred massala paste)... both raw meat n browned meat versions.
For stew ... the browned meat version is more appealing to the eye.
for chili ... i didn't notice a diff.

tips ... not many ... just don't add extra fluids.
chili: Just place you meat + spices + canned beans + tomatoes ... plug in and walk away (in my case for 14 hours). Chili is ready to go. No after taste, or raw funky smells.
if you are working with pre-soaked dry beans ... add 1/4 cup broth/water (some kinda liquid).

Stew: your root veges+meat+seasoning. no water/broth. I cooked it 8-10 hours. came out perfectly tender.

chicken curry: meat + 1tbspn oil+ onions+ curry paste. 6-8 hours. tasted fine BUT the onions didn't dissolve/mush away and the consistency of the salaan was thin. I was going to use pureed onions next time ... but never got around to it

Re: Slow cooker recipes

I've had the slow cooker for about 3 years, and I just recently started using it. I've only tried a few chicken (bonless and with bone) dishes so far, but each time they've turned out great.

Yesterday, I made peri peri chicken and potatoes (using a small whole chicken w/ bones and mostly my own recipe.)

Brown the chicken on the stove with some garlic paste. Cut your potatoes into small chunks and add to the bottom of the crockpot. Add salt, paprika flakes, peri peri sauce and mix. Add half a pack of dry onion soup mixture. Add chicken, more peri peri sauce, some lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, salt, paprika flakes, and some oregano. Slow cook for 6 hours. Came out perfectly tender and flavourful.
