I’ve been having trouble with how slow this computer at my parents house is. It is a dinosaur, and hence why we gave it to our parents.
But nonetheless, it is a sheer pain in the butt.
I downloaded Mozilla Firefox again, even though initially it kept shutting down on me. But Explorer was much worse.
Now that I have firefox, I’m trying to just delete explorer off my system. My uncle, who is a novice with computers, said that explorer and firefox when present on the same system collide with one another and make each other slower.
I can’t even find explorer on my add/remove application to get rid of it!!!
It’s like Explorer is a stubborn naani amma. You can’t get it to do anything you want it to do.
Other question I have is that I was told I have nearly nothing on my D drive and my C drive is nearly filled up. How can I move stuff from C to D? And WHAT do I move, and WHAT do I not move?
Google chrome was conflicting with my norton antivirus and chrome would keep shutting down spontaneously. It was definitely faster, but was such a pain in the butt.
I have run a gazillion antivirus scans, malware, spyware scans and nothing comes up.
I will be surfing the net and then next thing I know , the page doesn’t come up and it says “Firefox can’t connect to the Paklinks server”
or “Try not working offline”
or “Server taking too long to respond”
Then spontaneously, my wireless network is undetectable for a few minutes by my computer - like it doesn’t show up in “My wireless networks”. Then it reappears.
I mean I keep getting logged off and losing online documents because of this nonsense.
you cant uninstall explorer. and they dont conflict with each other.
can you list which softwares you have tried? I seem to remember that i had a very similar problem and i had to physically remove the hard disk, put it in another computer (that had an anti virus on it!) and scan it there.
AVG wasnt effective in removing it, norton was. I think it was something like w32.chir. something. used to close my windows whenever i tried downloading anything that could remove it, and would restart windows.
if you feel you’ve got a virus, etc which you haven’t been able to track down.. and if you have a copy of Windows, Office and any other software you paid for, the easiest solution is to blow the PC away and reinstall everything. it doesn’t take long. shouldn’t take you more than 2 hours at the most to get everything up and going. and once you do, get Avira. I don’t have much experience with it. used to run AVG but whatever I’ve read says that Avira is the best free anti-virus out there now.
and you can’t get rid of explorer. and there is no reason for explorer and firefox to not play nice with each other. only problem could be if you’ve got some stubborn malware. I used Malware Bytes (I think was the name) on my old PC and it caught some stuff that no other program would. but I still think the easiest solution is to blow the PC away and start over.
Firefox is known for eating RAM memory like a cookiemonster eats cookies. And since your parents have an older PC, i’m pretty sure that it’s a RAM issue.
