Sleeplessness

Been suffering bouts of insomnia recently..and to make matters worse i have exams in 3 days and the way im going right now i wont be able to study hard enough without sleep.

Any ideas on how to get a good nights sleep ? any foods that make u sleepy etc ?

Sleeping pills is my last option and one i donot wanna use unless i really have to.

BTW this happens to me every now and then..like once or twice a year…im used to it but this time the timing has thrown me off.

Yeah, it happens to me as well. Just maybe have some warm milk before bed. That usually helps. Read a book until you get tired, or listen to soft music to help you fall asleep. These are some of the techniques that I use. Stay away from sleeping pills though.

Do something strenuous during the day, tire yourself out, read books as FW advised..

But i assume you'd want to be revising during day ?? I would have thought that would be enough to make anyone drop off..

Remaining sedentary sometimes causes the body to become restless and avoid sleep.

Skip the pills and four or five hours before you want to be hitting the sack go for a strenuous workout....not the weights circuit....something that gets your heart rate up like squash or an intermediate level aerobics class.

Have an easily digested meal.
Then an hour before you want to be in bed have some warm milk.

Should do the trick for temporary bouts of insomnia.

Muzna is correct. Performing cardiovascular excercises on a regular basis can help you sleep so much more better. Excercise is the answer to so many of the body's problems. It could be that you're stressed due to your upcoming exams, and excercise is a great stress releiver, and will help to put your mind at ease.

After you have done all that Muzna has suggested, read a book in bed.

Read a boring book :D

I have yet to meet a person that can actually read a boring book. How do you motivate yourself to even pick it up?

CH,

Never, ever, ever read in bed. That's such an insult to the bed.

Whatever else is the bed used for. Be precise.

Drink milk before going to bed. Warm it a little. It helps.

Sometimes your conscience can keep you awake too...so if there's someone you have to meet or say something to...then go do it :)
