Sleeping on the tummy side

ok this is serious inquiry  …is there any side effects for sleeping on your tummy side? Specially for girls…i have heard all kind of myths that its not good for health like reproduction system etc or does it affect ur chest or breasts in anyway? All i know is that if you fall asleep being on tummy side, you get really bad pain in ur neck area after you wake up and you can’t turn left or right for few hours…but thats just usual muscles pain what about others i mentioned?

hey I'm a tummy sleeper ...haath uthaane wala icon :D

Some researchers say sleeping on the stomach may harm babies but not adults..It can't harm your body unless you're feeling uncomfortable sleeping in that position...neither is the growth of breasts and other parts of your body related to the sleeping position you use...as far as I know all the things you've heard are only myths...:)

i think its some religious thing as well.. i was always told as a kid that we shouldnt sleep on our tummies… hmm but it hurts neways

yeah, it’s mentioned in hazrat Ali :RA:'s hadith…well I can’t sleep in any other position so can’t change it…:o

so am i ..... i didn't knew that it was something religious too ....

Been sleeping on my tummy for i dunno how long... never hurt me though.. n i dont even get any pain wagera...mayb m too used to it.. for me its always more comfortable n cosy then sleepin on my back.. khayr.. everyone hav their own preferences... :-) .. about myths related to sleeping position?.. yup heard them a lot.. but well.. still havent found out if they r authentic or not ... so for now... i dont really care ;)

I dont think there are any side effects for sleeping on your tummy side ...I do that all the time :)

I think I can speak for all the guys here....We love sleeping on the tummy side!....legs spread and the right or left leg folded!...oooh...i feel sleepy already!

I sleep on my tummy and my neck is always fine in the morning. :)

Maybe it's your pillow that is causing you a stiff neck.

I get backache in the morning if I try to sleep on my tummy. I can only ever sleep comfortably on my back or side.

Personally I can never get to sleep lying on my front, although I watch tv in that position all the time. My husband and son are both tummy sleepers, I do read all the time about how its not wise to sleep babies on their front but Harris refuses to sleep on his back so I just have to keep a very close eye on him.

Edit: Watch yourself, you very well know as the rest of us that personal insults are not allowed. Keep it within limits
Thank you

Thanks COco but it was not personal it was just pointing at an aspect of the net. Any way no need for the quote either.

The only thing wrong with sleeping on your tummy is a chance of getting a back ache if you use two pillows under your head. If your back or neck is arched at an unnatural angle, it will hurt.

Be very wary about letting your baby sleep on his front. Even if you are keeping a close eye on him, the signs of a cot death in progress are not known - so how would you be be able to identify if he ever is (may God forbid) in trouble?

^
Agreed. Sleeping on the stomach increases risk of SID(sleeping infant death) syndrome but that's only for under 1 year olds...

wow so many tummy sleepers :) well i am glad to hear that it isn't as harmful as i thaught it would be. When ever i go to sleep i tend to sleep on tummy as a habit but just before dozing off i usually turn back. At few times i fell asleep whole night without turning and when i woke up i just couldn't move my neck for two days :( I think one of the reasons i tend to sleep on tummy is becuz of back pain as well. Being sitting front of computer for hours really does its work...therefore to over come that it feels good to sleep on tummy to straighten the back.

I totally agree with you but unfortunately he absolutely will not sleep lying on his back from day one. If you can suggest a way to get him to sleep on his back then that would be appreciated as I have tried many ideas but nothing seems to work.

…reminds me of a lateefa..its R rated though. oh well! anyone heard of the deadbody who was turned around in the grave? :o
hmm..there is a religious aspect to it as well?..jesus christ! I’m commiting a sin while sleeping..come to think of it..thaz a joke in itself.

I am a pillow hugger so I sleep on my side (mom broke my habit of sleeping on my tummy by repeatedly telling me how wrong it was).

Medical speaking it is disadvantages to sleep either on your tummy or your left side and there have been many tests done on this issue.

Now you may ask why well...

Our heart is located on left of the sternum...when we sleep on our stomach or on our left side gravity applies a great deal of pressure to our heart thus reducing the blood flow and circulation.

Theres always a reason for everything Islam preaches.

If only more would see the signs and are lead to the straight path.

yo elements mah man, how bout postin som-a-dem many tests :)
