I do not care where slavery is…
especially child slavery. Whether it be India
or America, it is totally wrong and depressing.

Totally disheartening. Just seeing those eyes
simply denotes a strong message of wishes
and desires, that obviously some condition
has ceased them to exist.

INDIA: Working Children Face Slave-Like Conditions
Of the 20 million children estimated to be working in India, close to half are illegally employed as domestic servants, including some as young as 6, the London Independent reports. Despite attempts to correct the situation, the problem is worsening, welfare organizations say.
Many of the children have been subject to abuse, harassment, forced
prostitution, rape and torture. They have little legal recourse, though,
because India’s Juvenile Justice Act, intended to protect young workers, does not cover children under 14, because their employment is illegal.

It might be worse in India but quit trying to avoid the fact that this problem also exists in Pakistan.

Mr x-communist, It is in many countries, What are the Governments doing to eradicate this? Probably nothing. One thing ive noticed is how Governemnts talk about it but take no action. But if we dont talk about it than nobody will know about their suffering.
This is a terrible phenomenon across the developing world. From child labor to children in military, we need to address these issues on a global scale. There is a program started by "Docs without Borders", which provides alternatives to families trying to cope with this facet of poverty.
I will try to get the details and post more info at a later time.

India next only to Bangladesh in malnourishment
I
ndia has the dubious distinction of having one-third of her children born with severe malnourishment and the Centre’s target of reducing the infant mortality rate from 90 per thousand to 60 by the year 2000 remains a distant dream even now, according to renowned neo-natalogist Dr S Meharban Singh.
While Pakistan and other south and southeast Asian countries were able to bring down malnourishment among newborns to less than 30 percent, it was over 33 percent in India as against 50 percent in neighbouring Bangladesh.
The situation is very grave, particularly in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajastan, Singh added.
Lamenting that over 50 to 60 percent of the children below the age of five years in the country had stunted growth or malnourishment, he pointed out that the need to improve the health of the girl child
Stating that the widely prevalent discrimination against girl children in the society had to go, Singh said only if the health, nutrition and education of girls were taken care of, the country could progress.
He said undernourishment among children not only affected their physique but also their brain, leading to poor neuro-motor development and higher dropouts from schools.

I think more people should DISCUSS this issue. There is SLAVERY affecting children throughout the World. We need to bring MORE pressure on the Governments to take firmer action to PREVENT this EVIL.
