No.U.S could not even have imagined that.There was a well timed treaty between India and the then U.S.S.R and by the time the U.S 7th fleet led by the `Enterprise’ was cruising towards the East Pakistan shores,the Soviets had deployed their ships with missiles.If U.S had even the slightest advancement towards India,it would have been a complete face-off between the Soviets and the Americans.
It was Mrs.Indira’s strategic moves that saved Dhaka.
