So I’m 22 years old, and I think I should start some sort of a skincare regimen now. I’ve been doing the usual exfoliating, cleansing, and moisturizing (used to use toner but stopped when I read it was pointless. Though I think I’m going to start again…) but for one I think I want to use some proper moisturizer now. My sister recommended Total Effects by Olay… what do you guys think? And what other things to do you think girls in their early 20s should do to ensure they have gorgeous skin for a long time? Alslo, do you think there’s any point in using things like http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=138969/Professional-Pro-X-Advanced-Cleansing-System/Olay/Misc-Beauty-Tools?
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
No point to things like that.
I use Olay Regenerist Rehydrating Lotion though. Loves it. It has UV Protection (which is important). Been using it for 5 years now.
My daily facewash is Regenerist Thermal Skin Polisher as well.
I hate regular toners but I love things like Rose Water and most definitely Witch Hazel (which is a natural astringent and helps skin to heal as well). I buy this one: http://www.naturallythinking.com/products/Witchazel.html (also buy my rose water from here and thinking of buying the marine collagen moisturiser).
Also, I use a simple liquid non oily eyemakeup remover and moisten a cotton pad with it, then put a few drops of olive oil on it, to remove my eyemakeup. Much kinder to the eyes and leaves them moisturised.
Since I keep Olive Oil in a small dropper bottle, if I ever have any dry bits on my face, I moisten a cotton pad with Witch Hazel (stops the oil being too oily), drop a single drop of Olive oil on top and massage it on the dry bits. Works great.
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
^good info :) it does matter according to age.
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
^Exactly, I've been looking for info about what to do in your 20s, and everyone gives you conflicting advice! :)
Thanks for the info stoppit! Sounds interesting. Apparently you're supposed to work up to using Regenerist in your late 20s/early 30s. What do you think about that?
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
I'm 23 and jus use Vitamin e cream n the oil from body shop thats all..
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
regenerists work in no age. they hardly have required ingredients in required amounts. most products r hype.
ok u should add vitamin c n retinol in ur routine once a week or may be every other day. and sunscreen with antioxidants. and the tool u mentioned i dunno but i use a conair exfoliating brush (similar to clarisonic) once a week or whenever i get time n it does make difference. also there's no age for good skin care and if u wait till ur 30-40 u'll already develop lines n probs that won't go away with any product. downfall starts after 30 so precautions should start way b4 that. if u start now u'll look in 20 in 40's :)
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
I’m in my early 20s too
Let me state what I use:
Neutrogena face wash
Lush ultralight moisturiser ( in the morning. They’ve discontinued it now but I was clever enough to purchase a huge bottle:phati:)
When I get back from work/ night time:
Cleanse with baby lotion
Moisturise with Nivea
Eye cream from Bodyshop
Sometimes if I remember I use an exfoliating cream wash once a week from Bobbi Brown
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
I use regenerist purely for the fact that the products work well as a moisturiser and exfoliating face wash.
Anyway, back to Greysanatomyfan. I was 23/24 and out of the acne period, with just lots of brown blemishes that needed fading. I tried a million moisturisers including the total effects line and found regenerist the best for my skin. So I think that's the most important thing - go for what suits your skin the best and the only really important thing it should contain is UV protection.
The thermal skin polisher because I was using an Estee Lauder product but this one got just as good reviews for a fraction of the price. I actually prefer it to Estee Lauder. It's gentle enough to use everyday and keeps skin looking fresh.
Other general things are to be gentle with your eyes. Minimise rubbing and tugging, especially when applying makeup. This is why I love the Olive Oil mixed with a simple remover (actually use the simple brand), because eyemakeup comes off so easily.
To be honest, I've never been into anti aging. I just do what I do because it suits me in the present. But I must have been doing something right because I'm now 28 and people generally are like "???? what?" when they find out I'm married. When I ask why it's because they think I'm too young, guessing my age between 18-22. My skin is in waaaay better condition than it was when I was that age.

That's my goal, lol! :) Yeah, apparently dermatologists think that mechanical cleansers do a better job of exfoliation and general skin toning, so I might look at it in a little bit more detail. Also did this thing on the Olay website that asked me lots of really detailed questions and then prescribed the following skincare regimen for me:
Purifying Mud Lathering Cleanser- Deep cleans to purify skin with the surface cleansing power of a mask.
Complete Defense Daily UV Facial Moisturizer SPF 30 - Sensitive Skin - Moisturizes and protects sensitive skin against sun damage with UVA/UVB SPF 30
Complete Night Fortifying Cream - Builds skin's resilience overnight for replenished skin each morning
Regenerist Daily Thermal Mini-peel- Daily exfoliates with gentle warming and micro-crystals to reveal newer skin
Remember, if you do not see the results you were expecting with Olay, you can contact us at 1 800 960 7925.
Maybe I'm being overly gullible, but this sounds pretty good to me! Am half ready to go out this minute and pick everything up from Shopper's Drug Mart. :D
@mama_ki_dua : I'm SO confused about eye-creams! I feel completely unable to comprehend what order you do the moisturizing in... moisturizer first and then eye cream? Or the other way around? And what's the point anyway, why isn't moisturizer enough?

Sounds great. I'm so glad you've figured out what works for your skin, that's exactly what I feel I need to do now. I'm hopelessly clueless when it comes to make-up, so I figure I might as well make sure my skin looks great. Alhamdulillah I've never gotten acne or any other skin problems, but I think now's the time to make sure things stay good in the future too, IA.
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
What is a good age to start using eye creams? Do you think it will have postive long term effects in decreaseing wrinkles?
If so which eye creams do you guys use?
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
^ u can use same thing for eyes that u use for face like vitamin C, retinols, or rose hip oil just be gentle with area. use middle or ring finger to apply cream. eye creams r expensive and carry same ingredients as face cream but come in lil packages which makes them waste of money and again there's no age. infact eyes r the first one to get wrinkles so they should be taken care of from early age when ur mom tells not to rub them. just don't use heavy cream or moisturizers under eye area to avoid milia.
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
Stoppit - I’m looking for a reasonably priced day lotion with an spf - currently using vitamin e from superdrug, it’s okay but am looking for something else once i finish it. I was reading online that this contains light difusers - does that mean it has sparkly things inside that once you apply, looks like you’ve got glitter on?
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
I've been wanting to change my skin care,
i have marks on my face left from spots that i get here and there. what can i use stoppit??
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
Nopes not at all. It doesn’t have any sparkly bits or shine. The complete care multi radiance does and I really didn’t like it.
Also, try not to pay full price for this or any of the products. I usually wait until there is an offer on. About 2 weeks ago superdrug had the regenerist range at 50% off so I stocked up on the rehydrating lotion and thermal polisher.
Otherwise, I buy online. Amazon has it for about £10.
It’s not for really dry skin. I shower with quite hot water and often end up with dry cheeks (even though my face is pretty oily) but then I use the olive oil method I described above.
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
Really, the thing that they need is time. There is no overnight fix as the skin needs to renew itself.
I would recommend the thermal skin polisher as a gentle daily exfoliator. I definitely noticed a difference when I started using this.
SPF moisturiser really helps if you want the marks to fade quicker, and all year round, not just when the sun is out.
I like to applythis witch hazel gel after electrolysis to make sure I don’t get any pimples and for skin healing. It’s good for active acne/spots and also for blemishes.
Also rosehip oil is meant to be very effective.
Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
i have to contact the electroylsis lady. i have 6 treatments to go with harley street so i will go to her post my wedding now :)
However i will be taking mum there as she would like her upper lip line done !

Re: Skincare in your early 20s?
